Here are the candidates for SBLive’s Oregon High School Team of the Week for Sept. 4-10 as nominated by coaches, fans and readers.

Elkton volleyball

The Elks edged Glendale 25-17, 29-27, 25-20 in a Skyline League opening match at Elkton to improve to 3-0. Senior Leah Shepherd had 18 digs, seven kills and six aces to help the Elks get the victory.

Crescent Valley football 

The Raiders notched a 63-50 win over South Albany in a wild Mid-Willamette Conference game at South Albany High School. Crescent Valley senior quarterback Rocco McClave completed 22 of 36 passes for 382 yards and four touchdowns, and he rushed for 190 yards on 23 carries and four more scores. 

David Douglas girls soccer

The Scots earned a 4-1 home win over Redmond and then got a 5-0 victory at Franklin to improve to 3-0. Through three matches, the David Douglas squad has outscored its opponents 15-1.

Franklin boys cross country

The Lightning sprinted to the team title at the Portland Interscholastic League Preview, held at Lents Park. Franklin finished in first place with 30 points. Wells was second at 62. Junior Brennan McEwen was the top individual finisher for the Lightning, placing second with a time of 15 minutes, 34.0 seconds, for the 5,000-meter course.

Jesuit boys cross country

The Crusaders turned in a dominant performance in taking the title at the Ash Creek XC Festival at Western Oregon University. Jesuit took first place in the 25-team event with 26 points. South Eugene was second at 142. Crusaders senior Caden Swanson was the individual winner of the race with his mark of 15 minutes, 30.0 seconds, for the 5,000-meter race.

Jesuit girls cross country

The Crusaders ran to victory in the team standings at the Ash Creek XC Festival at Western Oregon University. Jesuit took the top spot in the 17-team event with 40 points. Sunset was second with 95. Senior Liliana Hudnut was the top individual finisher for the Crusaders, running to fourth place with a time of 18 minutes, 30.3 seconds, for the 5,000-meter course.

Lincoln girls cross country

The Cardinals turned in an impressive performance in triumphing at the Portland Interscholastic League Preview at Lents Park. Lincoln took the top spot in the team standings with a score of 18 points. Franklin was second with 59. Cardinals senior Keira Saavedra was the individual winner of the race with her time of 18 minutes, 17.5 seconds, for the 5,000-meter course. Lincoln had five of the top seven finishers in the race.

Marist Catholic girls soccer

The defending Class 4A state champions improved to 4-0 by running to a 9-1 win over Class 5A Springfield in a nonleague match at Marist Catholic High School. Senior captain Cloe Chase scored six goals for the Spartans.

McLoughlin boys soccer

The Class 3A Pioneers, with senior midfielder Almikar Garcia having two goals and three assists, ran to an 8-0 win over Class 4A La Grande to improve to 4-0-1. Through five matches, McLoughlin has outscored its opponents 29-2.

McMinnville football

The Grizzlies jumped out to a 48-0 halftime lead on their way to posting a 62-7 win over rival Forest Grove in Pigeon Bowl IX. With the win, McMinnville not only moved to 2-0 on the season, but also claimed a 5-4 advantage over the Vikings in the Pigeon Bowl series. McMinnville junior quarterback Kane Sullivan, playing in just the first half, ran for 92 yards and four touchdowns on 14 carries, and he completed 6 of 8 passes for 142 yards and two more scores. 

North Salem boys soccer

The Vikings recorded a 3-2 win over defending Class 5A state champion McKay in a nonleague match at McKay. North Salem ended McKay’s 19-game winning streak while improving to 2-0 on the season. Senior Anthony Flores had one of the Vikings’ goals in the victory, giving him four through two matches.

Sherwood boys cross country

The Bowmen triumphed at the Pacific Conference District Preview, held at Joe Dancer Park in McMinnville. Sherwood grabbed first place at the event with a score of 44 points. Glencoe was second at 67. Junior Dylan Weniger helped the Bowmen claim the team title, as he was the individual winner of the 5,000-meter race in a time of 16 minutes, 14.3 seconds.

Sherwood girls cross country

The Bowmen finished in first place in the team standings at the Pacific Conference District Preview, held at Joe Dancer Park in McMinnville. Sherwood claimed the top spot with a score of 20 points. McMinnville was second at 58. Freshman Evylee Bugher helped lead the Bowmen to the victory, as she was the individual winner of the race with her time of 20 minutes, 12.3 seconds, for the 5,000-meter course.

Sisters volleyball

The Outlaws won all three of their matches at the Cascade Invite, besting Corbett, North Bend and Marshfield, each by 2-0 scores. With the three wins, Sisters improved to 10-0 this season.

Sprague volleyball

The Olympians went 5-0 during play at the Central Catholic tournament. Sprague bested Jesuit (2-1), Mountainside (2-0), Sheldon (2-1), West Albany (2-0) and Clackamas (2-0) at the event. With the five wins, the Olympians improved to 9-0.

Springfield football

The Millers posted a 36-34 overtime victory over Marist Catholic in a thrilling nonleague game at Springfield High School. With the win, Springfield not only moved to 2-0 on the season, but it also gave Millers coach Frank Geske his 250th career win — coming against the team he coached the previous 15 years.

Tigard girls soccer

The Tigers defeated Westview 1-0 and Barlow 3-0 in nonleague matches at Tigard High School to improve to 3-0. The Tigers’ defense, including junior Katia Pender, a University of Oregon commit, junior Kiera Grant, a University of Montana commit, and freshman Ella Naser, has allowed just one goal this season.

Umpqua Valley Christian boys soccer

The Monarchs, trailing Central Linn 2-1, got two goals from senior forward Daniel Withers in the final seven minutes to get a 3-2 victory in the season-opening contest, held at Central Linn.

West Linn football

The Lions roared loud, posting a 41-3 win over Sheldon in a rematch of the 2022 Class 6A state championship game, in a nonleague contest at Sheldon High School. West Linn senior Ryan VandenBrink, a star catcher who helped lead the Lions to the Class 6A baseball title in the spring, returned to football this year and had two rushing touchdowns in the victory. 

Willamette boys soccer

The Wolverines edged Sheldon 3-2 in a battle of 2-0 teams, clashing in a Southwest Conference opener at Willamette High School. Senior forward Joaquin Balcazar-Recinos scored all three of Willamette’s goals.
