The Oregon high school football season is scheduled to begin Thursday, Aug. 31 — 39 days from today. As we count down the days until kickoff, SBLive Oregon will give you one significant number per day.

North Salem scored 39 points in the inaugural OSAA Class 6A Columbia Cup semifinals last fall, defeating Liberty of Hillsboro by 18 points and advancing to an OSAA football final for the first time in the past 59 years. (The Vikings tied Grant of Northeast Portland 7-7 in 1963.)

Though seeded 28th in the OSAA Class 6A playoffs (fifth-lowest), the Vikings had credentials that foreshadowed a potentially deep playoff run. Two of their four regular-season losses were in one-score games, and the opponent in both of those games made the OSAA 6A championship bracket. Each of the Vikings’ victories last season were by at least 14 points.
