Mia Brahe-Pedersen went east this weekend and crushed a couple of state records.

The Lake Oswego junior traveled to Bend to compete in Saturday’s Summit Invitational, winning the 100 meters in 11.08 seconds and the 200 in 22.61 — not only breaking her state marks in both events but moving to the all-time national top 10 in the process.

She is now No. 3 all-time in the 100 among high schoolers, behind World U-20 champion and Olympic relay gold medalist Briana Williams (10.94 in 2019 for Northeast of Oakland Park, Fla.) and Candace Hill (10.98 in 2015 for Rockdale of Conyers, Ga.).

Brahe-Pedersen’s time is the fastest ever at a high school meet (Williams and Hill ran their times at summer events), breaking Olympic gold medalist Marion Jones’ 11.14 for Thousand Oaks, Calif., in 1992. It is tied for 17th in the world this spring for all age groups.

In the 200, she broke the state record of 22.95 that she shared with 1968 Olympian Margaret Johnson-Bailes and moved to No. 8 on the all-time national list. It is the second-fastest time at a high school meet, behind Allyson Felix’s 22.52 run for Los Angeles Baptist in 2003.

Her time ranks No. 14 in the world this spring for all age groups.

She wasn’t the only Lakers sprinter to shine in the High Desert on Saturday. Classmate Josie Donelson won the 400 in 54.68, tying for fifth on the state’s all-time list, beating Newberg freshman Sophia Castaneda, who went 55.12 to move to No. 11 all-time.

A third state record went down Saturday at the 73rd annual Grants Pass Rotary — pending verification by athletic.net. Churchill freshman Addison Kleinke cleared 13 feet, 1 inch, to become the second girl in state history to go over 13 feet outdoors.

She broke Sarah Sasaki’s 24-year-old mark of 13-0 set in 1999 at North Clackamas Christian. Kleinke’s all-time best is 13-6 as an eighth-grader last spring.

Central Catholic senior Kyeese Hollands tacked on another couple of inches to her personal best in the javelin, throwing 154-5 to win the Dean Nice Invitational on Friday and move to the top 20 on the state’s all-time list.

Crescent Valley sophomore Emily Wisniewski moved to the all-time top 10 in the 3,000 at the Dean Nice, running 9:40.87 (pending verification by athletic.net) that is eighth-fastest in state history.

Here is a look at the best marks posted in Oregon high school track and field for the week of May 1-7 as well as for the 2023 season (through May 7).
