No. 6 Mountainside stays perfect — barely — with 1-point win over Sunset

The Apollos led 20-7 in the third quarter but didn't score again.

Aaron rey Simpson ran for an 84-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter, and Holden Phillips’ point after kick pushed the Mavericks past the visiting Apollos in Beaverton.

Drew Nees had three touchdown passes — to Blake Hurley and two to Cole Massar — as the Apollos (3-3, 1-1 Metro League) of Northwest Portland built a 20-7 lead in the third quarter.

Alex Ingalls hit Madden Tanuvasa for a 24-yard touchdown to pull the Mavericks (6-0, 2-0) within 20-14 with 3:30 left in the third quarter.

Tanuvasa made 10 tackles, including two for loss, to lead the Mavericks’ defense.
