The OSAA 6A and 5A boys basketball state tournaments tipped off Wednesday in Portland and Corvallis. Here's a summary of everything that happened. 

CLASS 6A BOYS

At Chiles Center

Wednesday’s quarterfinals

No. 1 Tualatin 54, No. 8 Beaverton 43

Malik Ross scored a game-high 22 points on 6-of-10 shooting and Josiah Lake had 13 points with nine rebounds to lead the Timberwolves (24-2) over the Beavers (19-7). 

Kellen Hale added eight points and Peter Burke hauled in 10 rebounds for top-seeded Tualatin, which jumped to a 7-0 advantage and led throughout. 

Aidan Rice came off the bench to score 13 points, Trevon Hamilton notched 11, and Max Elmgren contributed eight to pace Beaverton. 

The Beavers forced 18 turnovers but were outrebounded 32-18. 

No. 5 West Linn 56, No. 4 South Medford 39

The Lions (21-3) raced to an 11-0 advantage and saw it get close a few times before pulling away late in a victory over the Panthers (23-3). 

Jackson Shelstad drained four three-pointers and poured in a game-high 26 points, and Zeke Viuhkola added 16 to provide the bulk of the scoring for West Linn. 

Mark Hamper had five points, while Peyton Durbin chipped in four to help the Lions’ cause. 

Boden Howell (16 points), Drew Hall (eight) and Junior Sleezer (seven) scored all but eight points for South Medford. 

The Panthers, who trailed 28-22 at halftime, pulled within one five times in the middle periods but never took the lead. 

No. 11 Mountainside 66, No. 3 Cleveland 56 (OT)

All five Mountainside starters scored in double figures, and the Mavericks (20-7) blitzed past the Warriors (22-5) in overtime. 

After Cleveland’s Christian Green hit a jumper at the regulation buzzer to send it to overtime, Mountainside seized control with a 13-3 run in the four-minute extra period. 

Dimitri Cohen (17 points), Dylan Westlake (15), Dezman Baker (13), Brayden Boe (11) and Quinn Haveman (10) combined to do all of the scoring for the Mavericks.

Green had 17 points and Jackson Cooper added 13 to pace the Warriors. SC Tresvant scored eight, and Jackson Owens and Stephen Treat pitched in six apiece in defeat. 

No. 2 Summit 65, No. 7 Roosevelt 64

Julian Mora scored on a tip-in at the buzzer, and the Storm (26-0) remained unbeaten with a come-from-behind win over the Roughriders (21-7). 

Terrence Hill (game-high 22 points, nine rebounds) sank two free throws to put Roosevelt ahead by one with 13 seconds left, but Mora was able to get position and put back teammate Caden Harris’ missed shot as time expired. 

Mora finished with a team-high 17 points, while Harris and Carson Cox added 16 each for second-seeded Summit. 

Utrillo Morris had 16 points and grabbed nine boards, Beya Kim scored nine, and Donatello Tupper dropped in eight for the Roughriders, who led 37-29 at the break.

CLASS 5A BOYS

Wednesday’s quarterfinals

No. 1 Redmond 51, No. 8 Ashland 37

The Panthers (21-5) turned 13 forced turnovers into 14 points and used a 15-2 free throw advantage to cruise past the cold-shooting Grizzlies (15-10). 

Garrett Osborne led all scorers with 28 points in 32 minutes and Evan Otten notched nine points to go with a game-high nine rebounds for top-seeded Redmond. 

Egan Shields (16 points) and Hawthorn Lapierre (eight points, seven rebounds) were the top performers for Ashland, which trailed 30-18 at halftime and shot 34.8% (16 of 46) for the contest. 

No. 4 Silverton 49, No. 5 Crescent Valley 47

Ryan Redman-Brown scored 16 points, including a go-ahead layup with 31 seconds remaining, and the Foxes (22-5) held on to down the Raiders (20-7) in a clash of Mid-Willamette Conference foes. 

Jordan McCarty also had 16 points and Neil Efimov added 10 points with five assists for Silverton. 

The Foxes forced 20 turnovers (19 points off) and had 13 steals but never led by more than two. Jake Leibelt (14 points, nine rebounds), Noah Dewey (10 points) and Cooper Wakefield (10 points) scored in double figures for Crescent Valley. 

The Raiders built a seven-point lead early in the third quarter before Silverton stormed back to tie it 37-37 with eight minutes remaining. 

No. 3 Wilsonville 64, No. 6 Crater 58

The Wildcats (25-2) used a balanced scoring attack and shot 62.2% (23 of 37) from the field as they held on to edge the late-charging Comets (21-6). 

Starters Tristan Davis (13), Kallen Gutridge (13), Maxim Wu (12), Logan Thebiay (11) and Enzo Chimienti (11) scored in double digits for 2019 state champion Wilsonville. 

The Wildcats dominated inside, outscoring the Comets 38-14 in the paint. 

Caden Lasater potted 14 points, Tate Broesder had 13, and Kadin Price chipped in 11 off the bench for Crater, which outscored Wilsonville 30-23 in the final period to make it close. 

No. 2 Churchill 66, No. 7 Eagle Point 52

Samaje Morgan went off for 38 points and 10 assists, leading the Lancers (22-5) over the Eagles (18-8) in a matchup of Midwestern League rivals. 

Cooper Case pitched in 16 points with seven rebounds, and Bugsy Jensen hit two threes and finished with 10 points for 2019 state finalist Churchill. 

Tommy Johnson and Alejandro Redondo scored 11 points apiece, and Peyton Pierce and Triston McGuire each had nine points off the bench for Eagle Point.
