Oklahoma high school boys basketball: Live score, OSSAA 6A state quarterfinals updates recap (3/6/2024)

Broken Arrow, Owasso, Edmond North and Edmond Memorial advance to 6A semifinals. Here is everything you missed

The Class 6A Oklahoma (OSSAA) state high school boys basketball tournament is underway on Thursday at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman as eight teams vie for a championship.

Edmond Memorial and Deer Creek tip in the first game at 9 a.m. central time. Edmond North and Westmoore follow it at 10:30 a.m., Norman and Owasso play at noon and Broken Arrow faces Union at 1:30 p.m.

The 5A quarterfinals are on Thursday, the 5A and 6A semifinals on Friday and every OSSAA boys basketball state championship game is on Saturday.

(FINAL) BROKEN ARROW 64, UNION 38

Broken Arrow will face Owasso in the 6A semifinals on Friday at 9 a.m.

-- Diego Ochoa had 17 points, Ace Clemons pitched in 12 and David Howell had 11 and six boards as Broken Arrow rode a big second half to a lopsided upset.

-- Miles Flemons had nine points and seven boards to lead Union.

-- Broken Arrow's Anton Wallace closes out the third quarter with a pull-up 3 to take a 49-27 win over Union. 

-- Broken Arrow opens the second half by scoring eight in a row to take a lead that as grown as high as 17. Diego Ochoa has four 3-pointers on the afternoon. 

2Q

-- Union 7-foot-1 center Erik Madrid picks up his second foul with just under six minutes left in the second quarter and the Oklahoma Baptist signee heads to the bench. (20-14, BE | 5:03)

-- Junior point guard DJ Howell opens the second quarter by knocking down a jumper. (17-12, Broken Arrow | 7:25)

-- Broken Arrow's Aciyon "Ace" Clemons flies through the lane and brings the crowd to its feet with a high-flying dunk, then Nyjah Noyes hits a 3 to give the Tigers the 15-2 lead at the end of the first quarter of a see-saw contest thus far.

(FINAL) OWASSO 60, NORMAN 48

Owasso holds off Norman to advance to the 6A state semifinals, where it will face the winner of Broken Arrow and Union on Friday at 9 a.m.

SECOND HALF

-- Jalen Montonati finishes with a stock-boosting-type performance, putting up a game-high 20 points and 10 boards to help Owasso pull away in the second half. The 6-foot-7 sophomore hit 10 of 12 free throws.

-- Jax Kerr had 16 points and seven boards. 

-- Owasso is trying to pull away. Jalen Montonati pushes the Rams' lead to six with under around 5:30 left to play, then finishes over the top of the defense two possessions later. (52-44, Owasso | 3:20, 4Q)

-- Owasso leads by 16 with 1:26 left in the third quarter. Can Norman find offensive flow in the final eight minutes?

FIRST HALF

Owasso jumped out to a quick 14-3 lead, but Norman responded. Beau Billingsley hits a deep step-back 3 to pull Norman within two possessions to close out the first quarter.

Jax Kerr led all scorers with nine points and added seven boards and two blocks for Owasso. Tony Jefferson leads the hustle stat category for Norman with a pair of steals and a couple charges drawn. 

(FINAL) EDMOND NORTH 55, WESTMOORE 50

Edmond North faces Edmond Memorial in the 6A state semifinals on Friday at 10:30 a.m.

-- Westmoore hit another 3 with 42 seconds left to cut the deficit to five, but Edmonds North is hitting enough free throws to put this one away.

-- Gavin Loper cuts against a screen, drives and scoops in a layup with his left hand to pull within one. Nice take, gentle touch from the composed guard. (43-42, EN | 4:00)

-- Dylan Warlick shows his dominance, answering the momentum swing with his own three-point play inside on the ensuing possession. (42-40, EN | 5:00)

-- Holy smokes. Gavin Loper pulls up from several feet behind the 3-point line and drills a 3 while being fouled to complete a four-point play to put Westmoore back on top. (40-39, Westmoore | 5:39)

-- Dylan Warlick puts Edmond North back up in the final minute o the third. Edmond North has been pressed in this back-and-forth game, but retains slim control.

-- Westmoore has scored five unanswered to take a three-point lead on defending champ Edmond North — a 3 and a tough bucket inside.

-- Gavin Loper hit a 3 to tie the game up at 29 to open the third quarter as Westmoore comes out firing.

FIRST HALF

-- Dylan Warlick has a game-high 11 points at half for Edmond North. Westmoore's Grant Loper has nine in a back-and-forth game.

Edmond Memorial hangs on to beat Deer Creek and will play  Edmond North in the Class 6A semifinals on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Lloyd Noble.

SECOND HALF

-- Pedulla snags the game-clinching rebound after Deer Creek's contested game-tying 3 rattles off. He then hits two free throws on the other end to seal the win. Also a football standout, the senior finished with 15 points in the win.

-- Elijah Brown rises to grab a long rebound and Ciaran Pedulla misses a pair of free throws as Deer Creek tries to chip away at the two-possession lead with the game clock under a minute. (52-48, EM | 0:41, 4Q)

-- Sophomore guard Hudson Franz pulls up and hits a contested top-of-the-key jumper to put Edmond Memorial up three. (50-47, EM | 1:59, 4Q)

FIRST HALF

Ky Kougl hit 3 of 4 first half 3-point attempts for a game-high 15 points and Edmond Memorial and Deer Creek entered the midway point tied.

Ciaran Pedulla led Edmond Memorial with eight points and Brady Hancuff and Elijah Brown each added six points. Clyde Davis, a junior point guard, added five points for Deer Creek.

The teams faces once before. Edmond Memorial won the first matchup 47-44 on Jan. 5.
