Oklahoma high school girls basketball Top 25 rankings (1/24/2024)

Massive shakeup results in El Reno, Choctaw vaulting to Top 2

One seismic girls basketball result occurred this past Saturday, when Putnam City West ended Edmond North's 47-game win streak.

The Lady Patriots were on the opposite end of another shocking result Tuesday, as they were handed their first defeat of the season, courtesy of Edmond Santa Fe.

As a result, there is a huge shakeup at the top of the latest SBLive Oklahoma Top 25 girls basketball rankings. Not only is there a new No. 1, but there's also a new No. 2. Not to mention other teams drastically moving up or moving down.

Note: Records are following games Jan. 23.

1. El Reno (16-0)

The Lady Indians have continued to dominate the competition all season, and now find themselves at the top. El Reno defeated a ranked Yukon squad to claim the Shawnee Invitational championship over the weekend; then on Tuesday, grabbed a 53-43 road win against a solid Midwest City Carl Albert team. El Reno returns home on Friday to take on Altus.

2. Choctaw (14-0)

With both Edmond North and PC West falling within the past few days, the Lady Yellowjackets now stand as the lone unbeaten squad in Class 6A. Choctaw jumped high in the rankings following its first-place showing at the John Nobles Invitational in Moore, as well as a 75-37 win Tuesday against Southmoore. Choctaw has back-to-back road tests on consecutive days, playing at Stillwater on Friday and at Jenks a day later.

3. Bethany (12-4)

The defending 4A champions put together an impressive run at the Heart of Oklahoma Tournament in Purcell, capped by a decisive win in the title game against fellow 4A contender Anadarko. The Lady Bronchos head to Elk City on Friday.

4. Putnam City West (15-1)

PC West defeated Edmond North in the title game of the Jenks-Union Invitational on Saturday, 47-45, avenging a narrow loss to the Lady Huskies in last season's 6A semifinals. However, the Lady Patriots were upended, 58-53, by Edmond Santa Fe on Tuesday, spoiling their perfect record. PC West seeks to rebound on Friday with a home contest against Northwest Classen.

5. Edmond North (11-1)

If history is a good indicator, the last time the Lady Huskies lost a game was two years ago, a late-season defeat to Classen SAS. Edmond North went on to win 6A and then won 6A again last season, going undefeated. The Lady Huskies also got a great bounce-back from Saturday's loss by winning, 69-64, at crosstown rival Edmond Memorial on Tuesday.

6. Lincoln Christian (14-2)

The Lady Bulldogs took some time off last week, having already played their allotted three tournaments. But they're more than eager to return to the court, and will get some much-needed game action Friday with a trip to Rejoice Christian; followed by a game next Tuesday at an intriguing Glenpool squad.

7. Tahlequah (15-1)

While El Reno has clearly been the class of 5A thus far, the Lady Tigers are definitely another team more than capable of hoisting the gold ball in March. Tahlequah is currently riding an eight-game win streak, the latest a 51-point win against Claremore on Tuesday. The Lady Tigers have home games coming up on Friday against Grove and next Tuesday against Pryor.

8. Idabel (16-1)

The Lady Warriors continued their winning ways over the weekend by claiming the top prize at the Atoka Tournament. Then on Tuesday, Idabel went on the road and picked up an impressive 67-38 win against Ada. The Lady Warriors have home games on consecutive days this weekend, Friday against the OKC Storm and Saturday against Stilwell.

9. Washington (16-1)

Washington is determined to finish the job after falling one win short of the gold ball last season. The Lady Warriors took first place at their own tournament over the weekend, and now have seven straight wins. They resume action on Friday with a game at Bridge Creek.

10. Dale (19-1)

Another squad that had its bid for a perfect season denied in recent days. It happened to the Lady Pirates on Tuesday, falling 55-51 on the road to Oklahoma City Millwood. Dale attempts to bounce back on Friday at home against Oklahoma Christian Academy, and the Lady Pirates are at home again next Tuesday, taking on Christian Heritage.

11. Edmond Memorial (12-3)

The Lady Bulldogs were on the short end of a pair of tough defeats over the past several days. They lost in the semifinals of the Carl Albert Titan Classic to Sand Springs in overtime. Then on Tuesday, they were edged at home by crosstown foe Edmond North. Memorial looks to return to the winning side Friday with a road contest at Putnam City.

12. Midwest City (13-3)

It was a rough go of it for the Lady Bombers at last week's John Nobles Invitational in Moore. They lost their first two games before salvaging the final game in the consolation round. Midwest City continued to get right on Tuesday with a solid 77-33 win against Noble.

13. Sapulpa (11-4)

Though they're not quite the same team they were a season ago en route to claiming the 5A state title, don't count the Lady Chieftains out of the championship mix come March. The Lady Chieftains are quietly putting together another solid season. This weekend, they play on consecutive days, taking on Tulsa Rogers on Friday and Holland Hall the following day.

14. Seiling (14-2)

The defending Class A state champions continue to look the part for a repeat performance. Last weekend, Seiling defeated a strong Merritt squad to claim the title at the Bi-County Tournament, and the Lady Wildcats have currently won seven straight games.

15. Mustang (13-4)

Another team to watch out for in Class 6A, the Lady Broncos are currently riding a six-game win streak, highlighted by a first-place finish at the Newcastle Tournament. Friday, Mustang takes to the road, traveling to Putnam City North.

16. Midwest City Carl Albert (13-4)

It was a tough last couple of games for the Lady Titans, dropping a pair of games on their home court. They lost to Sand Springs in the title game of the Titan Classic on Saturday; then on Tuesday, the Lady Titans fell to undefeated El Reno. Carl Albert will spend the next few days working on returning to the winning track, not playing again until next Tuesday with a game at Elgin.

17. Anadarko (16-3)

The Lady Warriors wanted to see where they stood in the 4A race with a test against defending champion Bethany in the title game of the Heart of Oklahoma Tournament. But it was all Lady Bronchos, who doubled the score on Anadarko. The Lady Warriors rebounded in a big way Tuesday with a win against Harding, giving up just two points.

18. Owasso (13-3)

Though the Lady Rams fell short of winning last weekend's John Nobles Invitational in Moore, they continue to be one of the more pleasant surprises in 6A. Owasso had won six straight games before its loss in the title game to Choctaw. Friday, the Lady Rams travel to face Sand Springs, a team Owasso has already beaten twice this season.

19. Edmond Santa Fe (10-4)

While crosstown foes North and Memorial have received plenty of attention, especially with both teams' success over the past couple of seasons, there's another team in Edmond to watch out for. Santa Fe is undefeated in the new year, and the Wolves definitely made their presence felt on Tuesday with their monumental win against previously undefeated Putnam City West. Santa Fe turns right around and plays again on Wednesday, a home contest against Yukon.

20. Dover (20-0)

Dover made it 20 straight to start the season with a 65-24 win against Okeene on Tuesday. The previous weekend, the Lady Longhorns captured the title at the Skeltur Conference Tournament, holding off Garber by a 47-41 count in the championship game. Dover returns to action on Saturday with a road tilt at Gracemont.

21. Norman (10-6)

It's been an up-and-down season so far for the defending 6A runner-up. But lately, the Lady Tigers have been on a bit of a surge. Last Friday, they avenged an earlier loss to "Crosstown Clash" foe Norman North with a dramatic 51-49 win. They followed that up with a 50-31 win against Westmoore on Tuesday. Friday, Norman travels to take on Yukon.

22. Stilwell (13-3)

The Lady Indians attempted to navigate through a challenging field at the Old Fort Classic last weekend in Fort Gibson. Stilwell did make it to the title game, but came up short to the host Lady Tigers. The Lady Indians did get back on track Tuesday with a decisive win against Checotah.

23. Putnam City North (13-3)

PC North has won four straight games and six out of its last seven. That included wins against Sand Springs, Classen SAS and Moore. The Lady Panthers' lone three defeats came to defending 6A champion Edmond North, defending 4A champion Bethany and Putnam City West, which started out 15-0 before its loss Tuesday.

24. Glenpool (12-2)

Glenpool dropped a 14-point decision to Putnam City West in the semifinals of the Jenks-Union Invitational this past weekend. The Lady Warriors did get third place with a 19-point win against 6A Jenks. Glenpool faces Pawhuska and Wilson (Henryetta) on Friday and Saturday, respectively, and then next Tuesday, entertains Lincoln Christian.

25. Fort Gibson (12-4)

Perhaps no team has had a better stretch of games this past week than the Lady Tigers. In their last three games, they have defeated three Top 10 ranked 4A squads, including Stilwell last Saturday to win the Old Fort Classic. Fort Gibson then avenged an earlier loss to Wagoner with a 49-36 win Tuesday on the Lady Tigers' home court.
