Oklahoma high school boys basketball Top 25 rankings (1/24/2024)
The final tournament week of high school basketball before the playoffs took place last week and many teams saw success.
Some other teams lost close games, but it could add fuel to their fire come playoff time.
Here is this week's SBLive Oklahoma Top 25 boys basketball rankings.
Note: Rankings and records are through Jan. 24.
1. Edmond North (11-2); last week (1)
Edmond North is back on the winning track. The Huskies played at Edmond Memorial in a tough road environment and won in convincing fashion, 72-44.
Teams are coming for Edmond North and their schedule does not get any easier. Edmond North has a tough road stretch coming up, as the Huskies will play at Edmond Deer Creek Friday, then two road games at Norman North and Mustang next week.
2. Owasso (14-2); last week (2)
Owasso is playing some of its best basketball, as they won the Bill Hanson Memorial tournament last week for the second season in a row. The Rams beat all their opponents by double digits, including a 52-41 win in the championship game over Blue Valley (Kansas).
Jalen Montonati scored 27 points in the championship game and he also currently is the 11th ranked sophomore player in the country on the ESPN rankings. Owasso travels to Sand Springs this Friday.
3. Dale (17-2); last week (3)
The Pirates played at Oklahoma City Millwood Tuesday and won the game, 88-52. Dale was the better team from the get go and only allowed nine points in the first quarter. Dayton Forsythe was spectacular as he scored 21 points.
The Pirates continue to roll and will host Oklahoma Christian Academy this Friday.
4. Tulsa Union (13-2); last week (7)
The Redhawks are red hot and have won seven games in a row. They also won the Jenks/Union Invitational and beat OKC Crossings Christian, 69-59, in the championship game. Union built a huge lead and senior guard Dalen Fuller made big plays and the Redhawks held off the Knights.
Union beat Sand Springs, 71-51, and has two home games this week with Bartlesville Friday and Enid Saturday.
5. OKC Crossings Christian (11-3); last week (4)
After losing to Tulsa Union in the Jenks/Union Invitational, OKC Crossings Christian got back on the winning track when they blew out OKC Western Heights, 82-30. But in the Union/Jenks Invitational, Cal Furnish and Cam Parker were named on the All-Tournament team.
CCS hosts Oklahoma Christian School this Friday in what should be a fantastic matchup.
6. Edmond Deer Creek (14-3); last week (6)
Edmond Deer Creek won the Bruce Gray Invitational for the second year. They beat Midwest City in the championship game, 66-63. The Antlers came from behind and closed the game on a 7-0 run. Everyone seemed to make plays, but Clyde Davis Jr. stole the ball at the end to secure a win.
Edmond Deer Creek hosts Edmond North Friday, in what should be an electric atmosphere.
7. Weatherford (16-1); last week (5)
Weatherford is called 'Dub Town' for a reason, as they continue to win basketball games. The Class 4A favorite played at Chickasha and won, 69-26, Tuesday.
Weatherford has not lost a game in January and will host Newcastle Friday, in what is a rematch of last year's quarterfinals, in which the Eagles won.
8. Edmond Memorial (10-5); last week (8)
The Bulldogs have played a tough schedule as Edmond Memorial took on Edmond North Tuesday. But Edmond North proved to be too much for Edmond Memorial and the Bulldogs lost the game, 72-44.
Edmond Memorial looks to get back on the winning track, as it will play Friday at Putnam City Original.
9. Choctaw (12-3); last week (9)
Choctaw came up just short in the Shawnee Tournament, losing to Mustang by double digits in the championship game, The Yellowjackets got back on the winning track when they beat Southmoore, 62-59. Choctaw has two tough road games this week, as they travel to Stillwater Friday and Jenks Saturday.
10. Midwest City Carl Albert (13-4); last week (10)
Midwest City Carl Albert lost to Moore Saturday in the championship game in the Moore Tournament. Carl Albert basketball was away from home for 38 days before returning to its court Tuesday and beat El Reno, 75-57.
It was a short home stand as the Titans will travel to Elgin next week.
11. Broken Arrow (12-4); last week (11)
The Tigers did not defend their title in the Shawnee Invitational, as they lost two games, one to Mustang and another one to Bixby. Broken Arrow played at Stillwater Tuesday and left town with a 46-44 victory. The Tigers host Muskogee, then get a chance to redeem its loss to Bixby Saturday.
12. Midwest City (13-3); last week (12)
Midwest City is playing really good basketball, but ran into a buzzsaw Saturday night against Edmond Deer Creek in the championship game at the Bruce Gray Invitational. The Bombers, Midwest City Carl Albert and OKC Crossings Christian are the three favorites to win Class 5A.
On Tuesday, the Bombers picked up a home win over Noble, 74-49. The Bombers host OKC John Marshall Friday.
13. Tulsa Booker T. Washington (12-1); last week (14)
The Hornets continue to win and won the Will Rogers Tournament last week. They beat a tough Collinsville team, 64-54, in the championship game and now have a nine-game winning streak. The Hornets hit the road Friday at East Central and look to add to its win streak.
14. OKC Douglass (10-3); last week (15)
The Trojans won the Sweet Pea Invitational last week when it beat a talented Lawton MacArthur team in the championship game, 54-31. Jaden Nickens still has yet to make his debut, but Douglass continues to roll without him. Douglass travels to Star Spencer Saturday.
15. Bixby (9-6); last week (14)
Bixby got some of its thunder back in the Shawnee Invitational when they won the consolation bracket. The Spartans ran out of gas against Choctaw in the semifinals, but bounced back beating Broken Arrow, 67-59.
Hosted Jenks Tuesday and won, 74-54. On Friday, Bixby plays Ponca City and hosts Broken Arrow Saturday, with both games being at home.
16. Jenks (10-5); last week (13)
The Trojans did not have their best performance in the Jenks/Union Invitational, as they lost to OKC Crossings Christian and Sand Springs. Jenks also played Bixby Tuesday, but lost 74-54. The Trojans have two big home games this week, hosting Southmoore Friday and Choctaw Saturday.
17. Tulsa Holland Hall (12-2); last week (18)
The Dutch competed hard in the Bruce Gray Invitational, as they finished third. They lost to Edmond Deer Creek, 44-40, in a defensive battle, but beat Ponca City in the third place game, 64-50.
Holland Hall plays at Tulsa Memorial Wednesday night. The Dutch beat Memorial earlier in the season, 51-33. A win sits them in the driver's seat for a district title.
18. Westmoore (9-4); last week (19)
Westmoore finished third in the Moore Tournament, when it beat Millwood, 63-49. Westmoore plays Edmond Santa Fe Friday, then travels to Southmoore Saturday.
19. OKC Millwood (11-5); last week (17)
OKC Millwood played Dale Tuesday and lost. The Falcons also competed hard in the Moore Tournament, but ran out of firepower The Falcons will play another tough game Friday when they host Cascia Hall.
20. Tulsa Memorial (12-3); last week (20)
Tulsa Memorial finished third in the Will Rogers Tournament, when it beat Tulsa Will Rogers, 58-46. Memorial hosts Tulsa Holland Hall Wednesday and can get revenge on the Dutch, as they lost to them earlier this season by 18 points.
21. Pocola (15-0); last week (22)
Pocola defended its title in the LeFlore County Tournament, beating Heavener for the championship. Tuesday night, the Indians faced Heavener again and once again prevailed, 73-45, and will travel to Talihina this Friday.
22. Calumet (21-0); last week (23)
Calumet defended its title in the West Central Tournament. Calumet also beat a good Southwest Covenant team Tuesday, 73-52. Calumet hosts Drumright Friday, then travels to Hydro-Eakly Saturday.
23. Oklahoma Christian School (14-1); last week (25)
Luke Gray now is OCS’s all-time leading scorer, as he broke Blake Griffin’s scoring record at the Cashion County Line Tournament. The Saints beat Fairview, 75-48, in the championship game and beat OKC Heritage Hall Tuesday.
Up next, OCS takes on OKC Crossings Christian Friday, then hosts Harding Charter Saturday.
24. Moore (10-5); last week, not ranked
The Lions have turned its season around and won their home tournament last week and are on a six-game winning streak. They host Norman North Friday.
25. Piedmont (13-4); last week, not ranked
Piedmont got to showcase its young talent outside of Oklahoma last week when it won the Four State Classic tournament in Kansas. Piedmont returns to the floor Friday when they play at a Capitol Hill team who has only won three games.
