Idabel girls basketball player Jaylen Cauthron voted SBLive's Oklahoma High School Athlete of the Week

Freshman guard making an immediate impact with the Lady Warriors

Idabel's girls basketball team was one of the prime contenders in Class 3A entering this season.

But the play of one of its newcomers could help the Lady Warriors capture the gold ball come March.

Jaylen Cauthron, a freshman guard, has helped lead Idabel to a strong start this season. That includes a sterling performance at the Lady Warriors' tournament right after Christmas break, as Idabel claimed first place with wins against 4A Oklahoma City Douglass and a 51-43 win against 6A school Bixby in the championship game.

The Lady Warriors are 12-1 and ranked No. 2 in the latest OSSAARankings.com 3A poll.

For her efforts, Cauthron was voted the SBLive Oklahoma High School Athlete of the Week for Dec. 25-31.
