Collinsville stays undefeated behind big night from Hudson Henslick
COLLINSVILLE, Oklahoma - Three first-half touchdowns, all from one individual, helped lift Collinsville to a 3-0 start to the season.
Hudson Henslick, a senior, scored those three opening-half TDs as the Cardinals stayed perfect after a 27-14 win against Bartlesville Friday night at Sallee Field.
Henslick, who plays wide receiver and safety, actually made his initial presence felt on special teams in scoring the Cardinals' first TD, breaking loose on a 94-yard kick return to end the first quarter moments after the Bruins got on the board. But the PAT try failed, keeping Bartlesville in the lead, 7-6.
In the second quarter, however, Henslick helped give Collinsville the lead to stay. On a fourth-down play at the Bruins' 10, quarterback Skyler Moorman rolled to his right and found Henslick open in the back corner of the end zone. The Cardinals' Justice McMath then added the PAT for a 13-7 advantage.
Then, with more than a minute left in the first half, Moorman found Henslick wide open streaking down the middle of the field. Henslick caught the pass in stride in glided in for a 57-yard TD, extending the lead to 20-7.
Henslick wasn't quite done. He stopped a potential Bartlesville drive in the closing seconds of the first half by intercepting a pass in the end zone, then running it back out for several yards.
The game was scoreless until the final eight seconds of the opening quarter. Bartlesville (0-3) took a 7-0 lead on a 1-yard TD run from junior tailback PJ Wallace, followed by the PAT.
But Henslick answered on the other end by returning the ensuing kickoff for his first six-pointer on the night, getting things going for the Cardinals, who averaged 58.5 points in their opening two wins against Oologah and Skiatook.
The Bruins did make things interesting with less than five minutes to play, as Wallace caught a fourth-down TD pass from quarterback Brett Eaves. But the Cards put things away on their next series as sophomore running back Scott Rigby broke loose on a 42-yard TD run with 2:16 remaining.
