Hominy quarterback Jaxon Woods prepares for showdown with Tonkawa in game between undefeated squads

As Hominy gets ready to face Tonkawa on Friday night in a battle of unbeaten teams, Bucks junior quarterback Jaxon Woods has already compiled an impressive list of accomplishments.
The do-it-all quarterback also plays basketball and baseball while running track as well. In the spring, Woods won two medals at the state track meet and over the summer, he attended a football camp at Texas Christian University.
If Woods continues to put in the work he has demonstrated over recent years, he could be doing much more than attending camps in the near future.
“I just get up and work hard,” Woods said. “I put in the work that needs to be done and go that extra mile beyond that.”
His coach, Caleb Christian, says Woods demonstrates a leadership ability that is unmatched.
“Jaxon exemplifies what it means to be a (Hominy) Buck,” Christian said. “He does everything it takes to go out and win on Friday nights.”
Hominy will have one of its toughest tests yet on Friday when the Tonkawa Buccaneers come to town. Both teams sit at 7-0 and the game could be for the district championship.
The Bucks have already had their share of difficult opponents, as they have dismantled of their Highway 99 rival in Cleveland and beat Pawhuska on the road to win the Battle of the Osage.
Woods says this will be yet another good test to prove his team is a contender as the playoffs near.
“We have to come out ready to play each week,” Woods said. “This week is no different.
"Tonkawa always has been a team we can’t afford to take lightly and that is the same for this year.”
Christian has studied the Buccaneers on film and said they have the potential to present problems for his team.
“They have athletes all over the field,” Christian said. “Coach (Mike) Kirtley has been there for a long time and has that program going in the right direction.
"It’s going to be a battle and I hope our guys are ready.”
It’s not just Woods who the Bucs will have to account for, as Hominy has several other playmakers capable of breaking loose at any minute.
Running back TK Sutton and wide receiver Ethan Wikel have both had breakout seasons offensively, and Ryder Edwards continues to impress defensively.
“That’s the nice thing about this team, we don’t just rely on a single person, we truly are a team and have each other’s backs and I think it shows on the field,” Woods said.
Hominy hosts Tonkawa for a 7 p.m. kickoff on Friday night.
