Ohio high school girls basketball: Meet the state’s best wings for the 2023-24 season

Who are the top wings in Ohio high school girls basketball this season?

With fall sports in the rearview mirror, the high school basketball season is finally here.

SBLive Sports is highlighting some of the best players in Ohio heading into the winter season.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be taking a position-by-position look at some of the best of the best in high school girls basketball. We started with point guards and combo guards and are now moving on to wings.

Here are 20 of the best wings in Ohio entering the 2023-24 high school girls basketball season.

Dee Alexander, Purcell Marian

The winner of the Ohio Ms. Basketball award last year as a sophomore, Alexander led her team to its second consecutive state title while averaging 26.2 points and 10.1 rebounds. She was the Division II state Player of the Year and is America’s No. 4 player in her class, according to ESPN HoopGurlz. Alexander also was selected to USA Basketball’s U16 Women’s National Team.

Brooke Bender, Anthony Wayne

Very active on the defensive end of the floor, she earned Division I Special Mention All-Ohio honors last year and teams with her sister, Elise, to give the Generals a formidable presence inside.

Kailee Bransford, Mount Notre Dame

The younger sister of K.K. Bransford, who was named Ohio Ms. Basketball in 2021 and 2022 and now plays for Notre Dame, the junior averaged 10.1 points and 4.0 rebounds last year for the Cougars.

Olivia DiFranco, Midview

 Headed to Eastern Michigan next year, the Division I Special Mention All-Ohio selection averaged 16.3 points per game last year and helped the Middies get all the way to the Division I state semifinals before falling to eventual champion Cincinnati Princeton. The lefty scored 117 points in Midview’s final four games, including 31 against Princeton. DiFranco suffered an injury earlier this season. 

Honor Hall, Richmond Heights

Her numbers from last year aren’t great because she plays for a program that preaches defense over everything, but she averaged 10.0 points and earned Special Mention All-Ohio laurels in Division IV.

Saniyah Hall, Laurel 

Ranked as the No. 3 player in the country in the class of 2026, she was a finalist for the Ohio Ms. Basketball award last year as a freshman. She has the size and length of an inside player but the skills of a guard. After averaging 20.8 points last year for a team that reached the regional finals, she was named 1^st Team All-Ohio in Division III.

Kiera Healy, Dayton Carroll

The 6-foot sophomore is a strong defender and a solid scorer, making her the No. 13 player in the state in her class, according to Prep Girls Hoops.

Journey Hildebrand, Brunswick

The Kent State signee averaged 15.7 points per game last year and was named Special Mention All-Ohio in Division I.

Kassie Ingram, Kings

Heading to Canisius next year, she has the versatility to play both inside and out, whether it’s on offense or defense.

Kristen Kelley, Amherst

 Signed with Merrimack College, the senior averaged 14.0 points per game last year and is in her third year as a starter.

Grace Kingery, North Ridgeville

 Named 3^rd Team All-Ohio after averaging 21.6 points per game last year, Kingery has signed to play at Ball State next year. At 6-foot-1 she has the ability to post up her defender, but she also has an almost unlimited shooting range.

Savanah Laurenty, Painesville Riverside 

Last year the 5-11 senior averaged 17.5 points, 13.5 rebounds, 3.8 steals and 3.4 assists for a team that reached the district semifinals.

Bryn Martin, Springboro

The junior has offers from schools like Ohio State, Xavier and Butler because she defends well and has good size, causing matchup issues for her team’s opponents.

Tatiana Mason, Brush

The daughter of Brush boys coach Chet Mason, this freshman has made her presence known right from the start of her high school career, averaging better than 15 points per game.

Ava Patti, Rocky River

A two-sport star for the Pirates—she helped Rocky River reach the Division II state finals in soccer—she was named Special Mention All-Ohio in basketball last year after averaging 14.9 points per game.

Milee Smith, Unioto

The 5-10 sophomore can score from all over the court and also handles the ball well, making her the No. 7 ranked player in the state in her class according to Prep Girls Hoops.

Riley Smith, Alter

 The Central Michigan commit helped her team win the Division II state title two years ago, combining with Maddie Moody to give the Knights a strong 1-2 punch on the inside.

Jamisyn Stinson, Sheridan

 A streaky shooter who is deadly from beyond the arc when she is on, the North Florida commit averaged 21.5 points per game last year and was named 1^st Team All-Ohio in Division II.

Samairah Thompson, Africentric

 She was at her best in last year’s Division III state final victory over Doylestown Chippewa, scoring 13 points and pulling down 11 rebounds, and will play for Buffalo next year.

Brooklyn Vaughn, Toledo Central Catholic

 The Loyola (Chicago) commit can be a force in the lane, as she averaged 15.5 points per game last year to earn 1^st Team All-Ohio honors in Division II.
