Ohio high school football playoffs Division VI roundup: Mineral Ridge, Ottawa Hills, Anna among winners in second round (11/03/2023)

The second round of the OHSAA football playoffs kicked off on Friday; here are the results in Division VI

The Ohio High School Athletic Association playoffs continued Friday night with 224 teams vying for a state championship across seven divisions, with 32 teams in each divisions broken into eight teams per region.

In Division VI, three of the  top four seeds - Kirtland, Columbus Grove and Garaway advanced to the next round with home wins.

Meanwhile, No. 8 Anna upset No. 1 Williamsburg in Region 24.

Second round games of note: 

Mineral Ridge 17, Rootstown 9

Mineral Ridge, the No. 10 seed in Region 21, never trailed and defeated the No. 2 seed to advance to the regional semifinals.

Owen Shingledecker threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Ethan Pemberton in the first quarter to give Mineral Ridge the early lead.

The Mineral Ridge defense forced three turnovers, including a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown by Julian Rozzi, who also had an interception. 

Ottawa Hills 28, Colonel Crawford 21

With Colonel Crawford, the No. 3 seed in Region 22, leading 21-15 late in the third quarter, Ottawa Hills receiver Jack Perozek caught a pass broke several tackles before running down the sideline for a  54-yard touchdown on the final play of the third quarter.

Ottawa Hills, the region's No. 6 seed, then intercepted a pass in the end zone in the fourth quarter and eventually scored again to ice the game.

Anna 52, Williamsburg 28

Anna, the No. 8 seed in Region 24, never trailed in upsetting the region's top seed.

Zach Osborn scored four touchdowns for Anna, three on the ground and then another on an interception returned for a score.

After Williamsburg tied the game at 8-8 in the first quarter, Anna scored the next 21 points to take a lead and pull away.
