Ohio high school football playoffs Division II roundup: Hudson, Lake, Harrison among winners in second round (11/03/2023)

The second round of the OHSAA football playoffs kicked off on Friday; here are the results in Division II

The Ohio High School Athletic Association playoffs continued Friday night with 224 teams vying for a state championship across seven divisions, with 32 teams in each divisions broken into eight teams per region.

In Division II, the top four seeds - Archbishop Hoban, Avon,  Massillon, and Anderson all advanced to the next round with home wins.

Second round games of note:

Hudson 24, Harding 21

Peyton Neher hit Trey Sharp for a 35-yard touchdown pass to give Hudson the lead and eventually the win with 3:47 left in the game.

Harding, the No. 11 sed in. Region 5, had taken a 21-17 lead with 6:03 left on a 3-yard touchdown run by Ryan Powell.

Neher completed 11-of-15 passes for 202 yards and three touchdowns for Hudson, the No. 3 seed in the region. 

Lake 21, Big Walnut 20 3OT

In a game that was scoreless through four quarters, No. 4 Lake outlasted No. 5 Big Walnut to advance to the regional semifinals in Region 7.

Trailing 20-14 after Big Walnut scored a touchdown and then bobbled the snap on the PAT attempt, Lake's Nathan Baker ran it in from 11 yards out to tie the game.

And then Joshua Hankins converted on the PAT to give the Blue Streaks the win.

Harrison 20, Northmont 17

Harrison, the No. 5 seed in Region 8, pulled out a win over No. 4 Northmont with a fourth quarter touchdown.

Trailing 17-14 heading into the fourth, Luke Rogers hauled in a touchdown catch to give the Wildcats a 20-17 lead with 9:32 left after the PAT was blocked.

Northmont had scored 14 straight to take the 17-14 lead after trailing 14-3 in the second quarter.
