Ohio high school football playoffs Division I roundup: Springfield, Mason, Archbishop Moeller among winners in second round (11/03/2023)

The second round of the OHSAA football playoffs kicked off on Friday; here are the results in Division I

The Ohio High School Athletic Association playoffs continued Friday night with 224 teams vying for a state championship across seven divisions, with 32 teams in each divisions broken into eight teams per region.

In Division I, three of the top four seeds - St. Edward,  Olentangy and Gahanna Lincoln advanced to the next round with home wins. 

Meanwhile, No. 9 Mason upset No. 1 Milford in Region 4.

Second round games of note: 

Springfield 17, Centerville 10

Springfield, the two-time defending Division I runner-up, is heading back to the regional semifinals with a win over Centerville.

The No. 12 seed in Region 2, Springfield took an early lead on a touchdown pass from Brent Upshaw to Dave Williams.

And then with the Wildcats leading 10-3 in the fourth quarter, Ohio State commit Aaron Scott scored a touchdown to give Springfield a 17-3 lead with 2:14 left.

Mason 10, Milford 9

Mason, the No. 9 seed in Region 4, became the first team to knock off a No. 1 seed in Division I with a 10-9 win.

Trailing 9-3 in the final minute of the third quarter, Mason's Tyler Dalton blocked a Milford punt inside and Kai Woofolk picked it up in the end zone for a touchdown. Max Gogul’s converted the PAT to give Mason the 10-9 lead. 

Archbishop Moeller 10, St. Xavier 7

Moeller, the No. 5 seed in Region 4, went on the road and picked up its second win of the season over St. Xavier.

Michigan commit Jordan Marshall led the Crusaders offense with 23 carries for 127 yards and a touchdown, while Devin Orr's field goal in the first minute of the fourth quarter gave Moeller its first lead of the game.

Moeller will play Mason in the regional semifinals.
