The Miami Marlins select Liberty Union pitcher Jacob Miller in second round of the MLB Draft

The SBLive Ohio Pitcher of the Year was the No. 46 overall selection

Jacob Miller will soon be taking his talents to South Beach, as the Liberty Union pitcher was selected by the Miami Marlins with the No. 46 overall pick in the second round.

Miller is the first high school player from Ohio drafted in the top 50 picks since 2012, when Solon left-handed pitcher Matt Smoral was selected in the supplemental first round by the Toronto Blue Jays with the 50th overall selection.

Miller was named the SBLive Pitcher of the Year for the state of Ohio this past season, as the righty finished the season with a record of 9-1 and an ERA of 0.63. In his senior high school campaign, Miller struck out 133 hitters in just 57.1 innings pitched.

In the first three games Miller pitched in the 2022 postseason, he allowed just three total hits and struck out 46 hitters while not giving up a single earned run. Those outings included a no-hitter in the district finals against Galion Northmor where he struck out 14 hitters in five innings and a one-hitter in the regional semifinals against West Lafayette Ridgewood in which he struck out 15 hitters and allowed an unearned run in a 2-1 win.

For his high school career, Miller made 27 starts and struck out 382 hitters in 171.1 innings and had committed to the University of Louisville.
