Jim Sosebee steps down as head football coach at Crest (North Carolina): Report

Sosebee led the Chargers to a 13-1 record in 2023

In two seasons as the head football coach at Crest High School, to say Sosebee has been successful might be an understatement.

Through two mere campaigns, Sosebee won 22 games and lost in just five. Now, the Chargers are currently left to look for his successor.

According to a report by the HighSchoolOT’s Joel Bryant, Sosebee has stepped down as head coach to pursue other opportunities. Gaston Gazette and Shelby Star's Joe Hughes first reported Sosebee's exit.

"I felt if you're going to look at other opportunities, it's something you have to be 100% into and not part way," Sosebee said per the report. "It's also March and I didn't want the person coming after me to be in a bad spot. It was a hard talk with my guys today. A lot of tears, it was bittersweet. I am glad we're leaving things better than we started, though."

It was a magical run through North Carolina’s Class 3A playoffs in 2023, with Crest’s postseason run ending in the fourth round, a 46-34 loss to Dudley.

Before landing at Crest, Sosebee spent the previous six seasons as the head coach at Hendersonville.
