Vote: Who is the 2023 North Carolina Football Player of the Year?

We give you eight candidates to choose from

The high school football season has wrapped up across the country and we start to take a closer look at player of the year awards.

But first, we want to let the fans decide on who they believe are the players most deserving before we here at SBLive Sports start naming the top performers of the 2023 season.

We continue in the East Coast region and to the Tar Heel State of North Carolina and we ask the question: Who was the 2023 North Carolina Football Player of the Year?

This list consists of eight worthy candidates and we're asking for your help as the fan to vote on who you believe had the best season this fall.

Voting will end on January 31st, 2024.

Editor’s note: Our corresponding poll is intended to be fun, and we do not set limits on how many times a fan can vote during the competition. This poll is specifically for fans to vote on the players that have been nominated and in no way discredits any other player that may not be mentioned in our poll.

Here are the nominations:

Andrew Attmore II, QB, Dudley: No quarterback in North Carolina put up the kind of passing numbers like Attmore II did. The senior signal caller completed 221-of-307 passes for 4,122 yards, 54 touchdowns and just a mere four interceptions. Also rushed for 127 yards and two scores.

Brady Stober, QB, Hickory: What’s scary for opposing defenses that faced Stober in 2023 is the quarterback has another season to go. The junior signal caller completed 241-of-343 passes for 3,933 yards, 47 touchdowns and just four interceptions. Also added over 100 yards on the ground and two scores.

Braden Atkinson, QB, Rolesville: Continuing to go down the quarterback list of passers, you can’t pass up Atkinson here. The junior put up strong numbers that can match up with many, completing 254-of-349 passes for 3,701 yards, 46 touchdowns and just four picks.

Jadyn Davis, QB, Providence Christian Day: Another season under center and similar numbers from the season before. Oh yeah, and another state championship. The Michigan signee ended 2023 throwing for 3,370 yards, 43 touchdowns.

Johnathan Montague, QB, Clayton: The dual-threat senior quarterback accounted for 54 total touchdowns on the season, but did the bulk of his damage on the ground. Montegue rushed for 2,578 yards and 41 touchdowns. Through the air, the passer through for 1,601 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Jamal Rule, RB, Salisbury: When it came to rushing yards, Rule ruled the 2023 campaign in North Carolina. The junior running back carried the rock 274 attempts for 2,712 yards and scored 36 touchdowns. Also caught 10 passes for 236 yards and three scores.

Zay Jones, RB, Scotland: The 5-foot-8, 175-pound running back was the every down workhorse for Scotland’s offense. Jones capped his high school career with a senior campaign rushing for 2,680 yards on 331 yards and 42 touchdowns.

Christian Richardson, ATH, Wilson Prep: Whether Richardson was needed to make a big play on offense or defense, the athlete was certainly a playmaker whenever he was on the field. The senior carried the ball 92 times for 1,359 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground. On defense, Richardson was the state’s top ballhawks, as he intercepted 14 passes.
