Here are the candidates for SBLive’s North Carolina High School Athlete of the Week for Oct. 15-21 as nominated by fans, readers and SBLive’s staff. Read through the nominees and cast your vote in our poll. Voting will conclude on Saturday, October 28 at 11:59 p.m. and the winner will be announced in next week's poll. Javier Rice, Asheville Christian: Rice completed 36 of 42 passes for 369 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 103 yards and two scores in a 49-33 loss to Christian Heritage. Rice leads the state in passing yards with 3,271.

Jed West, Tuscola: West had 216 passing yards and three touchdowns and 60 rushing yards and two scores in a 34-21  win over Smoky Mountain.

Bryce Baker, East Forsyth: Baker threw for 276 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 28 and a score, all in the first half, in the Eagles' 42-12 win against Glenn.

Mitchell Summers, Grimsley: Summers ran for 112 yards and five touchdowns in a 54-0 win over Page.

Karson Williams, Oak Grove: Williams had five touchdowns on seven carries and 201 rushing yards in a 49-7 win against Montgomery Central.

Markel Summers, Davie County: Summers ran for 299 yards and three touchdowns in a 40-33 win over Parkland. It's the second straight game of at least 240 rushing yards for Summers.

Devon Thomas, Rolesville: Thomas ran for 235 yards and six touchdowns in a 75-27 win against Wake Forest.

Everett Gryder, Watauga: Gryder went for 208 rushing yards and four touchdowns in a 54-48 win over Freedom.

Wendell Thompson, Myers Park: Thompson completed 15 of 21 passes for 250 yards and seven touchdowns in a 59-6 win over Berry.
