Here are the candidates for SBLive’s Western North Carolina high school defensive football player of the week for Sept. 21-22 as nominated by fans, readers and SBLive’s staff. Read through the nominees and cast your vote in our poll. You may vote as many times as you want. Voting will conclude on Saturday, September 30 at 11:59 p.m. and the winner will be announced in next week's poll. HERE ARE THIS WEEK'S NOMINEES

Caden Smith, West Lincoln: Smith had 11 tackles and a sack in a 33-19 win over Maiden. He also ran for 139 yards and a touchdown.

Zion Ikeme, A.C. Reynolds: Ikene had a 30-yard interception return for a touchdown and recorded a safety in a 58-7 win against Enka.

Jordan Lineberger, Newton-Conover: Lineberger finished with 14 tackles in a 22-21 loss to Lincolnton.

Tristian Williams, Hickory: Williams had 13 tackles and two sacks in a 43-14 win over North Lincoln.

Walter McGill, Bunker Hill: McGill had six tackles and three sacks in a 56-7 win over West Caldwell.

Wyatt Wesson, Bandys: Wesson finished with 12 tackles in a 48-30 win over East Burke.
