Here are the candidates for SBLive’s Central North Carolina high school football defensive football player of the week for Sept. 21-22 as nominated by fans, readers and SBLive’s staff. Read through the nominees and cast your vote in our poll. You may vote as often as you like. Voting will conclude on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 11:59 p.m. and the winner will be announced in next week's poll. If you would like to nominate an athlete, tag us on Twitter or Instagram at @sblivenc.

HERE ARE THIS WEEK'S NOMINEES

Nio Espinoza, Butler: Espinoza finished with 11 tackles, two sacks and forced a fumble in a 49-6 winner over Providence.

Caleb Hill, Weddington: Hill had two interceptions in a 17-14 win over Dutch Fork (South Carolina), the reigning 5-A state champions.

Joshua Porch, Robinson: Porch recorded 12 tackles, an interception and blocked a punt in a 26-6 win over Carson.

Austin Rottman, Ardrey Kell: Rottman, a linebacker, had two sacks and an interception in a 28-0 shutout win over previously unbeaten Cuthbertson.

Jaylen Carl, Southwest Guilford: Carl recorded seven tackles and three tackles for a loss in a 52-7 win over Western Guilford.

Kaydence Watson, Atkins: Watson had 11 tackles and a sack in a 56-14 win over Dudley.
