Here are the candidates for SBLive’s Eastern North Carolina high school football defensive player of the week for Sept. 21-22 as nominated by fans, readers and SBLive’s staff. Read through the nominees and cast your vote in our poll. You may vote as many times as you like. Voting will conclude on Saturday, September 30 at 11:59 p.m. and the winner will be announced in next week's poll. HERE ARE THIS WEEK'S NOMINEES

Cameron Melvin, Cleveland: Melvin recorded eight tackles, five tackles for loss, two sacks and a forced fumble in a 35-0 win over South Garner.

Cam Royal, Clayton: Royal finished with nine tackles and three tackles for a loss in a 29-2 win over Garner.

Malakahi West, Hoggard: West, a defensive end who was recently named as a participant for the East-West All-Star game, had an interception return for a touchdown in Hoggard's 49-15 win over Laney.

Kamar Fulton, Hoggard: Fulton recorded a 91-yard interception return for a touchdown in a 49-15 win over Laney.

Quinton Cypher, Millbrook: Cypher finished with 12 tackles and a sack in the Wildcats' 33-22 win over Jordan.

Donovan Frederick, Seventy-First: Frederick had 12 tackles, three tackles for loss and forced a fumble in a 55-7 win against Gray's Creek.
