Here are the candidates for SBLive’s North Carolina High School Athlete of the Week for Sept. 4-9 as nominated by fans, readers and SBLive’s staff. Read through the nominees and cast your vote in our poll. Voting will conclude on Saturday, September 16 at 11:59 p.m. and the winner will be announced in next week's poll. Congratulations to last week's winner, Lane Albright of Mount Tabor, who had a late surge to beat runner-up Andrew Attmore II of Dudley.  Albright received 2,629 votes, 59 percent of all votes cast.

HERE ARE THIS WEEK’S NORTH CAROLINA ATHLETE OF THE WEEK NOMINEES

Bronwyn Parks, Mount Tabor Cross Country: Parks won the Girls 5K championship race at the prestigious "Friday Night Lights" meet on Sept. 8. Parks finished in 17 minutes, 49.8 seconds, the third fastest girls' time in the history of the event. 

Noah Valyo, Athens Drive Cross Country: Valyo won the Boys 5K championship race at the "Friday Night Lights" meet on Sept. 8, finishing in 15 minutes, 14.7 seconds. Valyo also established a new meet record with his win, which bettered the old mark by 17 seconds.

Chancellor Bryant, Ardrey Kell Football: Bryant did it all in a 27-14 win over Catawba Ridge on Sept. 8. He had three receptions for 71 yards and two touchdowns and returned an interception for a touchdown. He has scored seven touchdowns, recorded three interceptions and two pick-sixes in his last two games.

Zay Jones, Scotland Football: Jones ran for 227 yards and two touchdowns and added a receiving touchdown in a 40-35 win over Britt.

Samantha McEachran, West Forsyth Tennis: McEachran, a senior, has yet to lose a conference singles match in her Central Piedmont 4-A playing career for the Titans. Her conference win streak is at 45 matches an counting.

Carson Fortunes, Northwood Football: Fortunes had a monster performance in the Chargers' 55-9 win over Southeast Alamance Sept. 8. He finished with 294 passing yards and three touchdowns, ran for 136 yards and three scores and had two interceptions.

Jordan Griffin, Hough Volleyball: Griffin had 30 kills and five aces in three wins last week against Myers Park, West Mecklenburg and West Charlotte. She leads the Huskies with 155 kills and entered the week No. 10 in the state.

Noah Backes, Brevard Soccer: Backes tallied 11 goals in wins against McDowell, Tuscola and Smoky Mountain last week. He has 18 goals and six assists this season.
