Providence Day is striving to become a national power in high school football.
The Chargers, ranked No. 1 in SBLive's North Carolina Power 25 and No. 24 in ESPN’s national poll this week, rolled past another storied program, city rival Charlotte Catholic, 42-7, on national television Friday night.
Michigan commit Jaydn Davis was 19-of-26 for 261 yards and 3 touchdowns without an interception as the Chargers moved to 3-0 on the season. Junior tailback Ian Cline added 101 yards and 3 touchdowns on 10 carries.

Providence Day's passing game thrives behind Michigan recruits
Davis threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to fellow Michigan recruit Jaylen Himes in the first quarter to open the scoring. The two hooked up on another 24-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter.
Yet another Michigan recruit, Channing Goodwin, had 6 catches for 64 yards.
Ian Cline scores three touchdowns in the victory
The 5-foot-9, 203-pound junior scored on runs of 13, 26 and 9 yards. Cline is a transfer from Greenbrier East in West Virginia, where he ran for over 3,000 yards and 35 touchdowns in two seasons.
Providence Day claims a Statement Win
Charlotte Catholic has long been a power in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association, with multiple state championships in football. The Cougars (2-1) had beaten South Mecklenburg, 49-16, and Northern Durham, 49-0, over the first two weeks of the season.
