Baker played his first two seasons of high school football at nearby Walkertown and led the Wolfpack to an 8-3 overall record, including a 5-1 mark in the Mid-State 2-A Conference. He threw for 1,823 yards and 20 touchdowns last season.

Their only loss in league play came at the hands of Reidsville, which was the 2-A state runner-up.

Baker will be taking the reins of the Eagles offense, which lost three-year starting quarterback Jaylen Alexander-Raynor to graduation last year. East finished last season 12-1 and advanced to the third round of the NCHSAA 4-A state playoffs.
