Jarin Stevenson, one of the highest rated basketball recruits in the country and the Gatorade Player of the Year in North Carolina last season, announced on Wednesday that he was reclassifying so that he can graduate in 2023 and enroll at the University of Alabama.

Stevenson, a 6-10 post player, helped lead Seaforth to a 18-9 record and a trip to the second round of the NCHSAA 2-A state tournament last season. He averaged 21.5 points, 11.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.3 steals, and 3.7 blocks per game

Stevenson announced his decision on Twitter. He was top target for North Carolina, Alabama and Virginia for the Class of 2024.

North Carolina had long been considered the favorite to land Stevenson since his mother, Nicole, played basketball for the Tar Heels under former Coach Sylvia Hatchell.

Stevenson, who lives in Pittsboro, played at Northwood as a freshman and helped lead the Chargers to the 3-A state championship game.

He elected to attend Seaforth, a new school that opened in Pittsboro for the 2021-22 school year, as a sophomore.

Stevenson's father, Jarod, was the team's head coach and his mother was the assistant coach.
