Tre Johnson is off the board.

The basketball world knew the five-star shooting guard from Link Academy (Missouri) would be returning to his home state next year, but would he be suiting up for the Texas Longhorns or Baylor Bears?

Texas it is.

Johnson, who recently cut his long list of college choices down to Texas and Baylor, announced his commitment to Texas on Wednesday.  He chose the Longhorns over Baylor, Alabama, Kansas and Kentucky, among others.

Johnson discussed those options with SBLive last week at Link Academy's signing day ceremony.

"I'm down to Baylor and Texas right now," Johnson said. "I'm just trying to get a feel of it, trying to see different games, see their style of play and see different guys on their teams that could be me in that position."

Johnson transferred to defending national champion Link Academy for his senior year after leading Lake Highlands (Texas) to its first state championship since 1968 as a junior.

Johnson is the nation's No. 1 shooting guard and No. 4 overall recruit in the class of 2024, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

The five-star commitment boosted the Longhorns' 2024 recruiting class 19 spots to No. 4 in the country. In addition to Johnson, Texas also holds pledges from four-star guard Cam Scott and four-star forward Nicolas Codie.
