Atascocita edges King in overtime: Houston, Texas high school football game updates

The No. 7 ranked team in Texas came from behind to win 28-21 and set up a big-time district matchup with nationally-ranked North Shore next week

Atascocita and North Shore will face off next week in a battle of undefeated teams.

In a pivotal District 21-6A Texas high school football game Saturday night, Atascocita (8-0, 5-0), edged out King, 28-21, in overtime to remain undefeated going into next week's district showdown with nationally-ranked North Shore

King (6-2, 3-2) jumped out to a 14-0 lead early against the Eagles, but they were unable to hold on for a statement victory.

Senior quarterback Zion Brown finished with three touchdowns (two passing, one rushing) for Atascocita, which outscored the Panthers by a score of 28-7 after falling behind multiple possessions.

OVERTIME

-- Atascocita wins, as USC Trojans commit Braylon Conley intercepts a screen pass to seal the victory for the Eagles. 

-- Atascocita starts overtime on offense, and the Eagles score on the very first play. Zion Brown and Cameron Glenn connect for another touchdown, this time from 25 yards out. King needs a touchdown here or the game will be over. (Atascocita, 28-21 | 1OT)

FOURTH QUARTER

-- The Hail Mary attempt by Atascocita falls incomplete, and the clock hits zeroes with the score tied at 21. On to overtime. 

-- Atascocita's defense stands tall at the goal line and forces a turnover on downs. The Eagles take over on offense at their own 1-yard line with 1:54 left on the clock.

-- King ties the game with its first score since the first quarter. Darius Clark-James hits a wide open Vincent Jones for a 55-yard touchdown. This one might come down to which team has the ball last. (Tied, 21-21 | 5:27)

-- No scores from either team during the third quarter, and it's on to the fourth quarter with Atascocita up by seven points. 

THIRD QUARTER

-- Atascocita comes up with an interception near the goal line on the opening drive of the second half. The Eagles will try to build on their lead after taking over on offense at their own 20-yard line.

SECOND QUARTER

-- And now Atascocita takes the lead on the final play of the first half. Zion Brown airs out a deep ball to Cameron Glenn, who hauls it in and coasts to the end zone for a 66-yard touchdown. (Atascocita, 21-14 | 0:00)

-- In less than 30 seconds of play, Atascocita went from losing by 14 points to tying the game. The Eagles come up with a scoop and score after a blitzing defensive back hits Darius Clark-James and forces a fumble. (Tied, 14-14 | 1:15)

-- Atascocita is on the board. Senior quarterback Zion Brown goes to work with his legs throughout that drive, and he caps it off with a 1-yard touchdown run. (King, 14-7 | 1:39)

-- On its fourth drive of the game, Atascocita finally picks up a first down, but the drive stalls after that. King takes over on offense at Atascocita's 44-yard line following a facemask penalty by the Eagles during the punt.

FIRST QUARTER

-- King takes advantage of the short field again. Darius Clark-James tosses a short pass to Kason Dobbins, who takes it in from 16 yards out for a touchdown. (King, 14-0 | 2:32)

-- Atascocita has to punt out of its own end zone following another three-and-out. King takes over in enemy territory at the 39-yard line.

-- King strikes first with a 14-yard touchdown run by Dionne Sims. The Panthers capitalize on the short field and jump on the Eagles early. (King, 7-0 | 7:41)

-- King's defense forces a three-and-out on the opening drive of the game, and then the Panthers tip the ensuing punt. Great field position for King's offense starting at Atascocita's 49-yard line.
