Eric Weddle, a 14-year NFL veteran who just won a Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams, will become the head football coach at Rancho Bernardo High School following the 2022 season, the school announced Saturday morning via social media.

Weddle was a second round pick by the San Diego Chargers out of the University of Utah in 2007 and was named to six Pro Bowls. He retired following the 2019 season but opted to return for the Rams playoff run this season and started at safety in Super Bowl LVI against Cincinnati.

Weddle will be taking over for Tristan McCoy, who has been the Broncos head coach since the 2011 season. McCoy has a record of 72-52 during his 11 seasons and helped lead the Broncos to the CIF D3-A State Championship in 2015. McCoy plans to remain on staff when Weddle takes over.
