We’ve picked out 10 sophomore football players in New York that have stood out this season.

We are just past the mid-point part of the 2023 high school football season here in New York and there’s no shortage of underclassmen performing at a high level.

It’s no surprise that sophomores are showing out in the Empire State as that’s been the case in the past many times over. This list of underclassmen features some of the top sophomore football players we’ve seen or have been on the rise in New York. Take a look at our list and vote for who you feel has been the top performing sophomore high school football player in New York.

Here are the nominations: 

Dominic Anzalone, QB, Bishop Timon St. Jude: Anzalone has really stood out this fall for the Tigers, with the quarterback throwing for 1,351 yards and 18 touchdowns this season. 

Justus Kleitz, QB, Iroquois: Kleitz is another sophomore that’s really been slinging it this season. The quarterback has completed 110-of-165 passes for 1,281 yards and 12 touchdowns to just four interceptions. 

Robert Livingstone, QB, Cazenovia: The Lakers’ quarterback has really done a nice job this 2023 campaign. Livingstone has completed 69-of-118 passes for 966 yards, 15 touchdowns and just three interceptions. 

Derik Betances, RB, Kennedy: Betances has been one of the top rushers all season long and has gone for 822 yards on 86 carries and scored nine touchdowns. 

Jay Miles, RB, Dryden: The Lions tailback has out together a solid 2023 campaign so far. Miles has rushed for 712 yards on 91 attempts and scored seven touchdowns. 

Dean Palazzolo, WR, Somers: Leading all receivers in the yardage department is Palazzolo as the sophomore has hauled in 34 passes for 740 yards and seven touchdowns. 

Gianni Velazquez, LB, Geneva: Velazquez has been a tackling machine for the Panthers this season. The linebacker has tallied 83 tackles, 10 going for a loss and three sacks. 

Bradley Rumrill, LB, Canajoharie: Another linebacker that’s had a really nice season is Rumrill for Canajoharie. The linebacker has racked up 80 tackles and a sack this fall. 

Colin Doxey, DE, Newfane: The defensive end has been really hard to stop for opposing offensive tackles this fall. Doxey has made 42 tackles and five sacks in 2023. 

Noah Bohlman, DB, Lockport: Making his way onto this list the the Lions’ defensive back, which Bohlman also plays receiver on offense. Bohlman has intercepted four passes on defense this season.
