Nevada high school boys basketball computer rankings: Liberty on top (1/25/2024)

Liberty and Bishop Gorman sit atop SBLive's 5A Nevada boys basketball computer rankings

With just two weeks left in the regular season, the Liberty Patriots are the No. 1 team in Nevada 5A high school boys basketball according to SBLive's updated computer rankings.

The Patriots (14-1) edged out No. 2 Bishop Gorman (16-4) for the top spot in the 5A rankings. Arbor View (14-7) is ranked No. 3, followed by Coronado (14-8) at No. 4 and Silverado (14-8) at No. 5.

SBLive's computer rankings formula was created using its own linear algebra-based ranking algorithm inspired by the Colley Bias-Free Ranking Method. Colley’s Method was created by Wes Colley, Ph.D., an astrophysicist at the University of Alabama at Huntsville. He devised his algorithm in order to help address the subjectivity and controversy regarding BCS college football selections in the 1990s and early 2000s, using a method that used no subjective variables.
