Watch: Carlsbad beats Faith Family 78-69, captures Holiday Classic National Division title

Carlsbad became the first San Diego Section team to win the tournament's National Division since Foothills Christian in 2016

SAN DIEGO — Carlsbad jumped out quickly on Saturday night, leading Faith Family Academy (Texas) 23-15 after the opening quarter of the Holiday Classic National Division championship game.

Faith Family briefly took the lead in the second half before Carlsbad regained control, beating the Eagles 78-69.

Carlsbad junior guard Jake Hall took home MVP honors in the National Division after finishing with a game high 27 points. Senior Tony Duckett joined Hall on the Holiday Classic All-Tournament team while Faith Family had two selections in Doryan Onwuchekwa and Isaac Williams.

Duckett had 19 points in the championship game and was one of four Lancers to finish in double digits along with Jael Martin (11) and Euan Davis (10).

Isaac Williams led Faith Family with 21 points in the championship game, averaging 20 per game over the four-game tournament. Doryan Onwuchekwa, a Colorado-signee, had 20 points in the finale and averaged 15 point per game for the week.

Carlsbad is the fifth San Diego Section school to win the National Division of the tournament, and the first two win it twice after beating Torrey Pines in the 2001 championship game.
