Archbishop Moeller suffocates Lakota West, advances to state semifinals: Live updates recap

Archbishop Moeller shuts out Lakota West and will play Springfield next in the Division I Ohio high school football playoffs

Archbishop Moeller had too much defense for Lakota West on Friday night at Mason High School.

Lakota West couldn't get any offense going as Moeller shut out the Firebirds 22-0 to advance to the Division I Ohio state semifinals next week against Springfield.

Jordan Marshall rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown to pace the Moeller offense, and Karson Hobbs scored a defensive touchdown for the Crusaders to start the scoring.

FOURTH QUARTER UPDATES

INTERCEPTION! Kyler Paul picks it off on fourth down and returns it into Lakota West territory with 3:58 left. 

TOUCHDOWN MOELLER! Jordan Marshall rushes it in from 2 yards out after he got 3 on fourth and 3 a few plays earlier. It's 22-0 Moeller with 5:18 left after the extra point was blocked.

TURNOVER ON DOWNS! Lakota West goes for it on fourth down and misses. Moeller ball on the Lakota West 20. Karson Hobbs with the pass breakup to get his team the ball back.

FIELD GOAL MOELLER! Crusaders elect to kick this time on fourth down, with Devin Orr converting a 21-yard kick from a tough angle to make it 16-0 Moeller, 9:26 left. 

Yet another fourth-down conversion for Moeller. Jordan Marshall gets 8 when he needs 3. First and goal for Moeller.

THIRD QUARTER UPDATES

Big play for Moeller gets called back by holding, and that's the quarter. Crusaders will have second and 18 from the Lakota West 33 to start the fourth, leading 13-0.

Another huge fourth-down conversion for Moeller, getting 10 when they need 6 on a Matthew Fogler catch.

FUMBLE! Connor Cuozzo pounces on a Samuel Wiles fumble and Moeller takes over with 3:46 left. 

Firebirds defense forces a three-and-out and then Brennan Remy gets a nice punt return to midfield with 6:13 remaining in the quarter. Still 13-0 Moeller.

Lakota West drive stalls at the 29 after a Kyler Paul sack for Moeller, and then the punt goes into the end zone for a 9-yard net. 7:49 left.

Huge personal foul call on Moeller keeps Lakota West's drive going with 9:49 left in the quarter, Firebirds driving in Moeller territory.

Lakota West gets the ball to start the quarter, beginning at its own 20, trailing 13-0.

HALFTIME LEADERS

-For Moeller, running back Jordan Marshall has 67 yards on 15 carries, and quarterback Matt Ponatoski completed 7 of 14 passes for 134 yards.

-For Lakota West, quarterback Samuel Wiles completed 5 of 12 passes for 77 yards, and his leading receiver is Brennan Remy with three catches for 43 yards.

SECOND QUARTER UPDATES

MISSED FIELD GOAL! Lakota West drives inside the Moeller 5 but misses a 20-yard field goal after a high snap. Junior Gonzalez made a big play on a screen pass to get the drive going. It's 13-0 Moeller at halftime.

Bukari Miles just misses a diving interception for Lakota West, and then Moeller punts into the end zone. Lakota West has 1:10 to try to finish this half on a good note.

Another quick three-and-out and another high snap that the Lakota West punter saves. Moeller ball with just under two minutes left.

FIELD GOAL MOELLER! Jordan Marshall's incredible fourth-down catch helps set up a chip-shot field goal for Devin Orr. It's 13-0 Moeller with 2:42 left in the half.

Drive stalls, and Moeller has the ball at its own 32, 10:01 left.

Lakota West starts the quarter with a much-needed first down.

FIRST QUARTER UPDATES

Moeller defense was the star of the opening quarter. Lakota West will have the ball second and long from its own 11 to start the second. Moeller up 10-0.

TOUCHDOWN MOELLER! Backward pass by Lakota West goes awry and Karson Hobbs scoops it up and cruises into the end zone. 10-0 Moeller, 4:49 left.

FIELD GOAL MOELLER! Jovan Love sets up a Devin Orr 37-yard field goal with a 68-yard catch. Moeller leads 3-0, 6:19 left in the quarter.

Dream start for Lakota West. Defense stuffs Jordan Marshall twice and then Jacob Asbeck gets a sack. Firebirds start on their own 44.

Kick goes through the end zone again. Moeller starting on its own 20 for real this time.

Off we go! Moeller starts on its own 20. Nevermind. Kicking again.

Archbishop Moeller followed up a close win over St. Xavier two weeks ago by rolling over Mason last week, as sophomore quarterback Matt Ponatoski threw five touchdown passes in the first half.

Senior Michigan running back commit Jordan Marshall had just five carries in the Crusaders' 38-3 win but did have a 63-yard touchdown catch.

Lakota West controlled the game on the ground last week in the Firebirds' 19-7 win over No. 2 seed Princeton, rushing for 218 yards as a team.
