Wyatt Becker commits to Utah; Sierra Canyon 2025 QB was considering Georgia, Oregon, others
It was already going to be a big week for Wyatt Becker.
The 6-foot-2, 180-pound junior quarterback at Sierra Canyon is playing in the biggest game of his young career Friday at the Santa Ana Bowl where the Trailblazers take on Mater Dei in a Southern Section Division 1 semifinal.
He'll go into the game with a little security.
On Wednesday, he announced his commitment to the University of Utah.
Becker, who has thrown for 2,423 yards and 29 touchdowns to go along with just over 200 yards rushing and four more scores, picked the Utes over 22 other offers, including ones from Georgia, Oregon, Tennessee and Texas A&M.
He's regarded as the No. 24 quarterback in his class, according to 247Sports, and the No. 29 recruit overall from California.
Wyatt Becker has great feet besides possessing a very strong arm.
The transfer from Notre Dame-Sherman Oaks decided to get a jump on quarterbacks from the Class of 2025.
His move to the six-time section champion Trailblazers has been nothing but good as Sierra Canyon has handled many of Southern California's finest, including Oaks Christian (30-14), Orange Lutheran (40-6), Serra (35-28) and last week, Santa Margarita (37-20), when he completed 13 of 18 for 239 yards and a touchdown.
His most impressive showing was in a 63-6 win over Arizona power Saguaro when he completed 18 of 21 for 363 yards and a school-record seven touchdowns. He also rushed for a score (see highlights at top of page).
He'll now get the grand-daddy of them all in the Monarchs, a team they've never faced. It is considered the biggest test the program has ever faced. Mater Dei has won six mythical national titles and been to the Division 1 final every year since 2016.
Becker can help bring that streak to an end.
