Shooting near Louisiana high school football game kills 1, critically injures another: Reports

Incident happened about a block away from the Donaldsonville football stadium while the Tigers were playing Patterson

One person is dead and another was critically injured in a shooting near the stadium where a homecoming high school football game was being played Friday night in Louisiana, according to several reports.

Update: The man who died was identified by WAFB-9 on Saturday morning as Tyree Parker, 21, of Donaldsonville, according to the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, and the second victim remains in critical condition. Malik Fowler, 21, of Gonzales, was arrested on suspicion of committing the shootings.

Two people were initially reported as injured in the shooting, with one being taken by ambulance and another by helicopter outside the football stadium at Donaldsonville High School in Louisiana, according to WBRZ-2.

Authorities later confirmed one of the shooting victims had died.

The shooting reportedly happened around 8:20 p.m. and a block away from Floyd Boutte Stadium while Donaldsonville was playing the Patterson Lumberjacks in the Tigers' homecoming game.

Patterson students and school officials attending the football game were taken home by school transportation, KQKI reported.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office told WAFB-9 that the two people shot were not Donaldsonville students, while St. Mary Parish Schools issued a statement saying all Patterson students and visitors were safe.

WBRZ posted an interview with Sheriff Bobby Webre on Facebook where he says: "We don't think these two people shot each other. We think someone shot both of these. That's our initial indication. We think the two that are shot are friendly with each other, they are partners, they are friends. So, we think they were shot by someone else."

Donaldsonville entered the game 3-5, while Patterson was 2-6. Friday's game was canceled, and each team has one game left in the regular season before the playoffs start in Louisiana.
