ESPN previews Border League high school basketball tournament
The high school basketball season is right around the corner.
Excitement for the 2023-24 season continued to build Friday, as ESPN began releasing the field for the Border League preseason tournament in Las Vegas.
Some of the best high school basketball players in the country — including Cooper Flagg, AJ Dybantsa and Cameron Boozer — will help fans get ready for the hoops season at the Border League next month.
The eight-team “Top Flight Invite” bracket, which will be played from Oct. 13-15 and televised by ESPN, includes several teams likely to be ranked in the SBLive/Sports Illustrated Power 25 national rankings entering the season.
Flagg and Montverde Academy (Florida), which came in at No. 1 in the way-too-early Power 25 national rankings, will take on No. 13 Bishop O’Connell (Virginia) in the quarterfinals.
Also in the first round, Dybantsa and No. 2 Prolific Prep will meet up with Trent Perry and No. 9 Harvard-Westlake in a battle of California powerhouses.
Here are the eight teams playing in the Top Flight division:

Columbus (Florida)
AZ Compass Prep (Arizona)
Harvard-Westlake (California)
Bishop O'Connell (Virginia)
Coronado (Nevada)
Bishop Gorman (Nevada)
While these eight teams will draw the most attention, they won't be the only ones competing at the Border League. There will be multiple brackets with high-level programs taking the court next month in Las Vegas.
The full bracket for each division, including the TV schedule, is expected to be released by ESPN next week.
