Will Hammond, Texas Tech commit, piles up 807 yards, 10 touchdowns in 82-80 Hutto loss

Patrick Mahomes sends a shout-out to the Hutto Hippos quarterback after a stat-stuffing night in Liberty Hill, Texas

Will Hammond put up a stat line for the ages in Texas high school football Friday night, but his Hutto Hippos lost one of the wildest games you'll ever see by a wild final score — 82-80.

The Texas Tech quarterback commit completed 36 of 58 passes for 719 yards and four touchdowns, plus ran for another 88 yards and six touchdowns.

Texas Tech alum and NFL superstar Patrick Mahomes took notice, sending a shout-out to Hammond on social media:

But the rushing attack from Liberty Hill was up to the task, as the Panthers' senior running back duo of Ben Carter and Noah Long combined for 679 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns.

Carter finished with 23 carries for 368 yards and five touchdowns, while Long tacked on another 311 yards on 17 carries as Liberty Hill rumbled for 753 yards total on the ground.

The 162-point game Friday night included 22 total touchdowns, and the total number of points eclipsed the total from the last boys basketball game Hutto and Liberty Hill played against each other.

Those teams combined for 113 points when Hutto beat Liberty Hill 64-49 in December 2022.

Hammond is coming off a junior season in which he threw 30 touchdown passes and ran for another nine.

He's well on his way to soaring past those numbers with his massive night Sept. 1 at Liberty Hill.
