Bryce James transfers again, will play basketball for Notre Dame after brief stay at Campbell Hall

Youngest son of LeBron James — a three-star recruit from the Class of 2025 — set to play for defending CIF State Division 1 champions

Bryce James played for Campbell Hall's boys basketball team this summer after spending his first two high school years at Sierra Canyon. However, the youngest son of Lakers star LeBron James won’t be competing for the Vikings this upcoming season.

James has jumped from Campbell Hall, where he spent a few short months, and has officially enrolled at Notre Dame in Sherman Oaks, a school official confirmed this week.

A school official from Campbell Hall confirmed Bryce James officially unenrolled from the school Wednesday.

James spent time between the junior varsity and varsity roster at Sierra Canyon last season.

He competed in 12 varsity games and averaged 3.8 points per game. James, a 6-foot-6 shooting guard who is listed as a three-star recruit by 247 Sports, enrolled for the fall at Campbell Hall and played with the Vikings this summer.

The team, which has a new coach in former UCLA assistant David Grace, went 0-4 in its games at the Section 7 tournament in Arizona.

The move has been in motion for weeks.

Bryce James toured Notre Dame's campus on Friday, July 21, and was expected to have the enrollment process completed sooner, but older brother Bronny James suffered cardiac arrest at USC on July 24.

A few days later Bronny James was released from the ICU and reportedly resting comfortably at home. In the meantime, Bryce completed the admission process this week and is expected to play basketball for the Knights in the 2023-24 season.

Coach Matt Sargeant, who led Notre Dame to a historic CIF State Division I title last season, was helped by the trio of Dusty Stromer (now at Gonzaga), Caleb Foster (Duke) and Mercy Miller returns a bevy of talent.

Miller, a Houston commit and son of rapper Master P, will come back for his senior season along with rising junior Lino Mark and sophomore Zach White.

Bryce James was expected to be accompanied by 6-foot-10 Tee Bartlett (class of 2025), who played with Bryce James on the same AAU team, Strive For Greatness. But Notre Dame coach Matt Sargeant told SBLive Bartlett will not be enrolling.

Bartlett started his high school career at Mater Dei before playing his sophomore season at Coronado (Henderson) in Nevada.
