Archbishop Moeller assistant football coach has Stage 4 kidney failure and needs a living donor

Moeller community unites around Darryn Chenault, who's also a University of Cincinnati police officer

Archbishop Moeller is one of the top-ranked football teams in Ohio heading into the playoffs, and the Crusaders have a source of inspiration on their sideline.

Assistant coach Darryn Chenault, who's also a University of Cincinnati police officer, has Stage 4 kidney failure and needs a living donor.

"The Moeller family has just been truly supportive," Chenault told WCPO 9 in Cincinnati last month. "Some people are just now finding out because I kind of held it back because I didn't want that to interfere with what we were doing as far as coaching and doing the things that we're doing on the practice field."

Defensive line coach Tony Acito, who has known Chenault for more than 20 years, described his friend as a fighter.

"I think he's showing by example how a good man handles a tough situation, and I think the kids are feeding off of that," Acito told WLWT 5.

The Crusaders (9-1) finished their regular season last week with a 30-14 win over Detroit King (Michigan) and earned the top seed in Region 4 in Division I. They play Hamilton (3-7) on Friday in the first round of the playoffs.
