Carson Boyd commits to Illinois; 2025 QB picks Illini over Texas A&M, Missouri, others

Boyd has helped Cardinal Ritter win two Missouri high school football state championships

Cardinal Ritter (Missouri) junior quarterback Carson Boyd committed to the University of Illinois on Saturday morning.

A 6-foot, 180-pound dual-threat quarterback, Boyd has helped the Lions win back-to-back Missouri football championships the past two seasons while splitting time with senior quarterback Antwon McKay Jr. (Western Illinois signee). Ritter is 28-0 over the past two years.

As a junior, Boyd completed 80 percent of his passes for 2,224 yards and 29 touchdowns and also ran for 576 yards and six scores. 

As a sophomore, in 2022, Boyd completed 76 percent of his passes for 1,510 yards, with 28 touchdowns against just three interceptions, and ran for 562 yards and three TDs.

Boyd received scholarship offers from Texas A&M, West Virginia, UNLV, Missouri State, UCF, Louisville, Ball State, Iowa State, Cincinnati, Purdue, Illinois, Missouri and Georgia Tech before he made his commitment. 

He received the offer from the Illini last summer. 

A three-star prospect, Boyd is rated as the No. 38 quarterback prospect nationally in the Class of 2025 in the 247Sports Composite rankings as well as the No. 536 prospect overall.
