Look: Lamar players console opponent after winning Missouri football state championship

Lamar rallied from 21-point deficit to beat Valle Catholic in OT

COLUMBIA, MISSOURI – Before celebrating their team's dramatic come-from-behind overtime victory in the Missouri Class 2 championship game on Saturday night, Lamar's Junior Romero and Mario Delapena sought out an opponent.

Romero, a senior safety, and Delapena, a junior defensive tackle, saw Valle Catholic senior Alex Viox's reaction to his team's 35-28 overtime loss at Memorial Stadium.

Romero approached Viox first to console him before Delapena joined in. The Lamar players each gave Viox a half hug before Romero walked toward his teammates.

Delapena and Viox walked away together before the teams met at midfield for the post-game handshakes.

After the trophies were handed out to each team, Lamar joined Valle Catholic at midfield for a joint team prayer after some words from Valle Catholic coach Judd Naeger.
