Clinton High School names Louisiana Monroe assistant John Carr as football coach

The Arrows' new coach has experience at the college, junior college and high school levels

Clinton Arrows Athletics Director Judd Boswell has hired Louisiana Monroe assistant John Carr to be the school’s next football coach.

Carr spent last six seasons as an assistant at the college level at UL Monroe and Troy University. Before that, he worked on Todd Monken’s staff at Southern Miss from 2013 to 2015.

He also has experience at both the junior college level — working under Steve Buckley at Jones County Junior College in 2016 and 2017 — and in the high school ranks. He went 72-28 in seven years as head coach at Ouachita Parish High School in Louisiana.

“John’s a good coach, but also a great person,” Boswell said. “We know he’ll do a great with our guys, and we’re going to support him 100 percent.”

The Arrows, who compete in arguably the toughest region in the state (Region 2-7A) suffered a slew of injuries last season and finished 1-9.

Boswell stepped away from the head coaching position in January to focus full-time on his athletic director duties. He is still on the hunt for a basketball coach to replace two-time championship-winning coach Leonard Taylor, who stepped down to become the school's assistant principal.
