Mississippi All-State Football Teams, Player of the Year: SBLive's 2023 postseason awards

It's time to identify the best of the best in Mississippi high school football

With the 2023 Mississippi high school football season in the books, here's a look at the SBLive Mississippi Player of the Year, Coach of the Year and All-State football teams. Congratulations to all our honorees!

SBLive Mississippi Player of the Year

Daniel Hill, RB, Meridian

No player in Mississippi did more individually to elevate their team than Meridian's star senior Daniel Hill. Whether lined up at quarterback, tailback or wide receiver, opposing defenses had to adjust and tilt the lineup to account for him. He rushed for 2,064 yards and 23 touchdowns, caught 16 passes for 240 yards and three touchdowns and accounted for three more scores with his arm. He led Meridian to the playoffs for the first time since 2017, then ran for three touchdowns to lead the Wildcats to an upset win over top-seeded Ocean Springs in the first round.

SBLive Mississippi Coach of the Year

Tyrone Shorter, Louisville

Everyone just assumes that Louisville is going to be in the championship every year, and Tyrone Shorter and his staff are a big reason why. Not only did they lead the Wildcats to an undefeated record and a second-straight Class 4A Championship, they did it while playing one of the toughest schedules in the state and with few seniors being heavily recruited as "big-time" college prospects. The defense, under coordinator Javancy Jones, held opponents to seven or fewer points in 10 out of 15 games.
