Oak Grove's AJ Maddox voted SBLive Mississippi High School Athlete of the Week

The seniors' 310-yard, three-touchdown performance against Meridian earned more than 60,000 votes from fans across the state

Congratulations to Oak Grove Warriors quarterback AJ Maddox on winning the fan vote for SBLive Mississippi’s High School Athlete of the Week!

Maddox completed 20 of his 26 passes for 310 yards and three touchdowns in the Warriors’ 45-35 win over Meridian.

It was a tight one this week, but the Texas A&M commit’s impressive performance garnered 51.1 percent of the more than 122,000 votes, narrowly edging out Forest defensive lineman Latrell Pace, who finished with 46.9 percent of the vote.

Here’s a look at the other nominees from last week:

Nate Blount, RB, Brandon

Rushed for 175 yards and three touchdowns in the Bulldogs’ 54-17 win over Petal.

Patrick Broomfield, DB, Clarksdale

Came up with three huge interceptions in the Wildcats’ 34-24 win over Lafayette.

Braylon Brown, DL, Northwest Rankin

Logged seven tackles, including four for a loss, forced one fumble, recovered one fumble and picked up two sacks in a 21-13 win over Pearl.

Nyrikius Johnson, RB, Germantown

Rushed 23 times for 250 yards and three touchdowns and threw a 59-yard touchdown pass in the Mavericks’ 34-33 win over Starkville.

Kenzavius Lundy, ATH, Simmons

Rushed 24 times for 250 yards and four touchdowns in the Blue Devils’ 42-0 win over Leland.

Latrell Pace, DL, Forest

Recorded 13 tackles, including two for a loss, in the Bearcats’ 28-14 win over Union.

Benny Williams, ATH, Bay High

Went bananas in a 37-34 win over Moss Point, rushing 15 times for 229 yards and two touchdowns on offense and recording 11 tackles, three sacks and two tackles for a loss on defense.
