Mississippi high school football computer rankings: Pearl No. 1 in 7A (10/16/2023)

There are no more unbeaten teams in Class 7A

After Oak Grove's stunning loss to Brandon on Friday, Pearl (6-1) takes over the top spot in the latest SBLive 7A Mississippi high school football computer rankings.

Oak Grove (6-1) fell to No. 3 in the 7A computer rankings, while Brandon (5-2) moved up to No. 4. Ocean Springs (6-1) is No. 2.

Pearl's run at the top might be short lived: The Pirates host Brandon on Friday, October 20.

SBLive's computer rankings formula was created using its own linear algebra-based ranking algorithm inspired by the Colley Bias-Free Ranking Method. Colley’s Method was created by Wes Colley, Ph.D., an astrophysicist at the University of Alabama at Huntsville. He devised his algorithm in order to help address the subjectivity and controversy regarding BCS college football selections in the 1990s and early 2000s, using a method that used no subjective variables.
