Mississippi high school football rankings for Week 4 (9/11/2023)

Here's a look at SBLive's Power 10 and Class-by-Class rankings for Mississippi for the Week of Sept. 15

With Week 3 of the 2023 Mississippi High School season in the books, it's time to look at the updated SBLive Power 10 and Class-by-Class rankings.

SBLive Mississippi Power 10 Rankings

1. Oak Grove Warriors (3-0)

  • Last week: Beat Hattiesburg 32-14
  • This week: Hosts Madison-Ridgeland Academy (4-1)

The Warriors kept the momentum rolling with a convincing win over their cross-town rivals, but this week’s matchup against the MRA Patriots presents another step up in competition. Southern Miss commit John White should provide a good test for the Warrior secondary.

2. Starkville Yellowjackets (3-0)

  • Last week: Beat Meridian 42-21
  • This week: Hosts No. 4 Louisville (3-0)

The Yellowjackets handled their business against a revamped Meridian program, and avoided the let-down that can happen when a team is looking forward to a big matchup the following week. And while this week’s non-region game against fourth-ranked Louisville won’t mean a thing in the standings for either team, there are some serious bragging rights on the line in the Golden Triangle.

3. Tupelo Golden Wave (3-0)

  • Last week: Beat Hernando 40-0
  • This week: at Oxford (2-1)

J.J. Harrell tossed a pair of touchdown passes and five different rushers combined for 255 yards as Tupelo rolled again. The defense has now allowed one touchdown in 12 quarters of football. This week, the Golden Wave face former region foe Oxford, which is coming off an upset loss to Grenada.

4. Louisville Wildcats (3-0)

  • Last week: Beat Columbus 45-20
  • This week: at No. 2 Starkville (3-0)

Now that the Wildcats handled their business against Columbus, they can turn their eyes to what could be the game of the year in the Magnolia State this weekend in Starkville. Last year’s rendition (a 21-20 Starkville win) helped both teams get better for a state title run.

5. Picayune Maroon Tide (2-1)

  • Last week: Beat D’Iverville 42-7
  • This week: at Gulfport (2-1)

The Maroon Tide handed the D’Iberville Warriors their third loss of the season, and looked good doing it. They’ll take a huge step up in competition this week with a trip to Gulfport to face Nico Williams and the Admirals, who are coming off their first loss of the season to sixth-ranked Madison Central.

6. Madison Central Jaguars (3-0)

  • Last week: Beat Gulfport 23-21
  • This week: at Northwest Rankin (2-1)

The Jaguars shook off a three-hour bus ride and found a way to beat a very good Gulfport team on the road last week thanks to another dominant performance from the defensive secondary. NWR quarterback Wes White should provide another test this week.

7. Ocean Springs Greyhounds (2-1)

  • Last week: Beat Northwest Rankin 27-24
  • This week: Hosts Natchez (0-3)

Senior Will Berglin is an emerging star after shaking off five sacks to pass for 258 yards and three touchdowns against the Cougars last Friday night. The rebuild following the departure of coach Blake Pennock and 2022 Mr. Football Bray Hubbard is officially ahead of schedule.

8. Pearl Pirates (3-0)

  • Last week: Beat Brookhaven 27-20
  • This week: Hosts Ridgeland (1-2)

The Pirates moved from No. 9 to No. 8 this week after pulling out a tight game against the visiting Panthers (2-1). That salty Pirates’ defense will have their work cut out for them this week against a Ridgeland squad that figured some things out offensively in a 31-13 win over North Pike last Friday.

9. Gulfport Admirals (2-1)

  • Last week: Lost to No. 6 Madison Central 23-21
  • This week: Hosts No. 5 Picayune (2-1)

The Admirals dropped from No. 7 to No. 9 this week after a close home loss to a surprisingly good Madison Central team. Their tough non-region slate continues this week with another gut check against the fifth-ranked Maroon Tide.

10. Warren Central Vikings (2-1)

  • Last week: Beat Germantown 21-3
  • This week: Hosts Brandon (1-2)

The Vikings are back in the Power 10 this week after bouncing back from an overtime loss at Pearl with a dominant 21-3 home win over Germantown. They can cement their spot among the state’s top 6A teams with another strong showing this week against a Brandon team that is playing angry after an 0-2 start.
