How the SB Live Mississippi Power 10 fared Friday night (Oct. 7 scores)
JACKSON — We're headed for a big shakeup in next week's poll after Friday night. The only question is which team's impressive win will help them move up in the rankings.
No. 1 Brandon beat Petal 32-7
The Bulldogs (6-0) kept it rolling with a comfortable win over the Panthers. Four different Bulldogs found the end zone, including tailback Jarvis Durr, who had two. Brandon is 3-0 in Region 3-6A, and can get to 4-0 with a win at Meridian (2-3) next week.
No. 2 Madison Central lost to No. 9 Clinton 38-31
The Jaguars (3-2) ran the ball well, but had no answer for Jakobe Calvin and the Clinton running game in the second half. The loss snapped a 16-game winning streak at home, and the road doesn’t look any rosier next week with a trip to Tupelo (7-0).
No. 3 Ocean Springs was off
Quarterback Bray Hubbard was spotted on the sidelines at the Madison Central - Clinton game, but that was all the action the Greyhounds (6-0) saw Friday night. They’ll be back next week with a home game against Pascagoula (2-4)
No. 4 Picayune beat East Central 28-10
The Maroon Tide (7-0) notched a huge win to move to 3-0 in Region 4-5A. It’s hard to say they had an off night — they did win by 18 points — but Friday’s game was the first one in a month of games Picayune didn’t win by at least three touchdowns. It’s been that kind of season for Cody Stogner’s bunch.
No. 5 Tupelo beat Starkville 24-17
The Golden Wave (7-0) picked up a critical win to keep pace with Clinton in the Region 2-6A race, and looked good in the process. Jeremiah Harrell tossed a couple of touchdown passes to help Tupelo hand the Yellowjackets their third-straight loss.
No. 6 Louisville beat Choctaw Central 50-18
The Wildcats (6-1) beat the breaks off the Warriors and moved to 2-0 in Region 4-4A, setting up a huge showdown with West Lauderdale (6-1) next Friday night.
No. 7 Itawamba AHS beat Shannon 42-24
Isaac Smith rushed for 149 yards and two touchdowns and the Indians (7-0) got two second-half defensive stops deep in their own territory to secure the win.
No. 8 Warren Central beat Northwest Rankin 35-28
The Vikings (5-1) stayed one step ahead of the Cougars for three quarters, then buried them with two long drives in the fourth. The win moved Warren Central to 2-1 in Region 3-6A.
No. 9 Clinton beat No. 2 Madison Central 38-31
The Arrows (4-2) strangled another opponent into submission with a strong second-half ground game, and came away with a signature win. Tailback Jakobe Calvin went for 164 yards and three touchdowns.
No. 10 Gulfport beat Hancock 41-6
Jacob Palazzo completed 16 of his 20 passes for 240 yards and two touchdowns as the Admirals (5-1) rolled to 3-0 in Region 4-6A.
