USC football flips 3-star Minnesota defensive line prospect

Senior Jide Abasiri of Prior Lake (Minnesota) was previously committed to the University of Minnesota

Three-star defensive lineman Jide Abasiri committed to USC Thursday morning. The Prior Lake (Minnesota) product and former University of Minnesota commit chose the Trojans after a recent visit to Southern California on December 9.

Abasiri had committed to the University of Minnesota in March, but a recent offer and visit to USC changed his mind.

“USC has been really good,” Abasiri told 247Sports. “The best thing about USC is all the connections you make and all the different kinds of people you’ll meet. The school sets you up for so much more than football.”

USC recently hired a new defensive coordinator, D'Anton Lynn.

“Coach Lynn’s defensive scheme and how he’ll play me in it,” Abasiri told 247sports.

He added: “There’s just a lot more opportunities out here than Minnesota."

Abasiri is the No. 4 prospect in Minnesota in the class of 2024, and he is the No. 65 defensive lineman in the country. He becomes USC's 17th highest ranked commit in the class of 2024 and second defensive lineman.

SBLive named Abasiri to its first team All-State defense.

Abasiri was the No. 3 prospect in the University of Minnesota's 2024 class before decommitting. The Gophers' top commit, Esko (Minnesota) safety Koi Perich, has recently shown interest in Ohio State. Three-star linebacker Brady Pretzlaff from Gaylord, Michigan decommitted from the University of Minnesota on December 13.
