Pequot Lakes defeats Rush City in Class 2A Minnesota volleyball title game

The Patriots defeated the Tigers in straight sets

ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA — The No. 2-seed Pequot Lakes Patriots defeated the No. 4-seed Rush City Tigers 25-18, 25-22, 25-22 in the Minnesota high school volleyball Class 2A championship game on Saturday at Xcel Energy Center.

It's the first state title in Pequot Lakes history after the Patriots were runners up in 2022.

"We set a culture in our gym about volleyball that our practices are work, and I need 100 percent effort," Pequot Lakes head coach Christine Ganley said. "And I think they were taught that as they enter the varsity program. … Over the last five to seven years it’s been growing and growing and growing, and these kids finished the dream."

The Patriots defense was difficult for the Tigers to break down. Ruch City had 26 errors in the match.

"It was one heck of a season, and I’m so proud of them," Rush City head coach Eric Telander said. "They earned this moment. … Pequot Lakes played a hell of a game, and it seemed like they were in every damn spot we were trying to hit. I’m happy with the way we fought in each set."
