Rosemount football upsets Lakeville South

The Irish scored on the final play to defeat the No. 2 team in Minnesota

The No. 14 Rosemount Irish (4-2) defeated the No. 2 Lakeville South Cougars (5-1) 22-21 Friday at Lakeville South High School.

Rosemount took a 7-0 lead on a 4-yard touchdown run from quarterback Jackson Ganser. 

Lakeville South tied the game at seven with a 1-yard touchdown run from Gaven Dean with eight minutes, 35 seconds remaining in the first half. 

The Irish took a 14-7 lead after a touchdown run from Maki Whelan, and the Cougars tied the game just before halftime with a 1-yard touchdown from Gabe Jacobson.

Neither team scored in the third quarter.

Connor Cade gave the Cougars a 21-14 lead in the fourth quarter.

Rosemount scored on the final play of regulation and converted the 2-point attempt for the upset. Ganser threw an 8-yard touchdown to Whelan, who threw a pass to Gavin Caswell for the 2-point conversion.
